whats the score with mostly part-time staff using cars on there delivery....think they need to take a good look at the royal mail c.o.d policy ???

I do not agree with people taking cars out on delivery and I never have but the advantages are too great.
Royal Mail can dump you 3+ miles away from the DO with bags and multiple packets. The bag drop can force you to backtrack multiple times and if people are not in you can find yourself stuck with lots of P739'd packets which you have to struggle with during the delivery and on the way back to the office using a bike.
Now all of this is eradicated with the use of your car, I believe most people understand the pitfalls but weigh them up and decide it's easier to use their cars. Most of them fold with line manager bullying and some do it for personal reasons. Whilst I do not agree with the use, my anger is directed more towards Royal Mail for not picking up Posties who are a certain way from the office. However all they do is take you to the bagdrop then forget about you which is a Royal Mail mantra.
Coming in early really is a bugbear of mine though. Working for free and running around is just destroying the job and putting pressure on the people who try and do things the right way. I have often been accused of dragging my feet as a reserve because the regular 'who comes in early/runs around/uses car' can complete faster than me.
I once told the manager WHY they were faster and the response was that they didn't care about the 'why's' just the fact they DIDN'T CLAIM OVERTIME!
So, how can I work with responses like that?
On the other side of the coin though, imagine postie "X" is getting harassed about cut offs, time taken to complete. Postie X cannot cope with the pressure any more and takes their car out on delivery. Now they can complete and the manager moves onto someone else, Postie X now gets an easy life, something we all deserve.
If we all stuck together we could overcome most of the problems described but sadly Royal Mail, over the years, have done their level best to separate us all.

Also the coming in early brigade seem to be the ones that don,t seem to know where the canteen is... its 40 mins in total- PAID break... FFS that will be the next thing RM take off us if certain individuals run about daft for very little profit to them ! Do the job properly.. come in on time + go out on time-if possible :cfo its not asking much... but still we have a least a dozen or so in our office who are always without fail in early- the prepping D2Ds should be done in RM time too..so thats not an excuse
