On annual Leave but signed off on sick???

Hi. Just wondering where I stand with this.

I was due to be on annual leave this week (commencing 8/6). However, following a serious assault on Friday night/ early hours of Saturday morning I was admitted to hospital and subsequently found out I have a fractured cheek bone in 3 places. The left side of my face is currently a mess and I am in constant pain and thus have attended my GP who has given me a sick line which will last up until the 20th at which point I will have to visit him again to discuss whether or not I will be fit to return to work.

However, since the incident took place prior to the commencment of my annual leave, and as it has pretty much ruined any plans which I had, where do I stand regarding getting these days back? I could just write off this holiday, but as it stands I wasn't even due to be on leave but did a swap to allow a colleague to have 1 of my weeks later in the year. That being the case, and the fact I'm pretty much bed bound, with the exception of doctor and hospital appointments I kinda feel like I am being robbed a weeks annual leave through no fault of my own. I may try to pop into my office at some point either tomorrow or friday to allow my manager to see the extent of my injury and discuss things with him, but wouldn't mind knowing where I stand regarding leave entitlement etc.

If you have a sick certificate your Annual Leave should be deferred.

Yes you are entitled to get your holidays credited back to you. (managers cannot argue with the dates onthe sick-line)

Baldrick's right. When you pop into work to see your manager, take your doctor's note with you and he will defer your holidays.

Ok thanks. Well the incident took place on the early hours of saturday (6/6). However, it has taken until now to get a GP appointment, and the date on the sickline is from today - I did ask for it backdated, but he said that wouldn't be neccesary due to being allowed to self certify for 1st 7 days of absence. So I know I will definetly be entiled to all days back from today onwards, but how about previous 2 days? Would it be down to my managers discretion?

And as for enjoying the time of work - I was looking forward to it, but unfortunately the black eye, hugely swollen jaw and cheek and inability to eat anything solid has taken a bit of the shine off it haha! But I shall live.

No, it's not your manager's discretion. You just self certificate from the Monday 'til your doctor's note kicks in.

work on 20th, and need more time off sick, you will be going into 14th day off sick
on the 21st (unless you resume on 20th) and will be getting a Stage 1.

Dont you mean that a stage 1 will be triggered and not that the OP will be getting a stage 1.

No, I think Baldrick is right, I've never known a stage that has been triggered not being issued.
