Sun cream

While the last few days havent been very good weather wise, last week we had really nice hot weather, during this time, we was told by the managers that they are no longer allowed to provide suncream due to health and safety (allergies). a couple fo the lads came back to the office with badly burned faces and backs of legs, now sureley not providing the cream is more of a health and safety risk than providing it.

And pray why should they buy there own royal fail has decreed that we now go out on the streets at a time when the sun is high in the sky (midday on on)
when years ago before the plans were drawn up to screw it's workforce so the lads at the top could earn ever more in bonus payments.
As we know there's such a thing called duty of care royal fail are passing the buck as always they know full well the increased risk of skin cancer to it's employees but alas don't give a sh*t councils arround the country give there employees sun cream on an individual bassis and those that require 'special' creams are reimbursed the cost.
Now if royal fail was equally caring of it's staff then do you not think thats the way to go .......but there if the foot soldiers contract cancer thats yet another way of disposing of staff without the need to sack on some spurious charge !!!!!

I do but i think the problem is that RM are forcing us to deliver in the hottest part of the day (when the advice is to avoid those times) and that they should provide us with the proper equipment for our jobs.

First of all: I wouldn't suggest using the cheapest Suncream on the market. I'd be more inclined to spend a bit more, and have the piece of mind.

Secondly: Although RM should be providing Suncream, as in my opinion, it's Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). If they fail to do so: Then everyone should provide their own. It's not worth risking Skin Cancer, to make a point.

Well, a lot of people DO use their own cars, footwear (trainers) and time so I guess you have a point.

And as the wise poster said above me, forget RM on this issue - please use your own, they are not worth making a point over on this occasion.

okay, and while im at it, i shall buy my own work boots, blue shirts, and a high capacity trolley?
royal mail have a duty to provide the correct equipment/facilities to enable us to work safely.
and i think if you are buying sun cream for £1 you should really check if it has any protection at all. decent sun cream is atleast £5 a bottle. why should i pay for it?
like someone said previously, people recomend that you stay out of the sun when its hottest (around noon) im normally just starting my third bag by then, and have atleast another hour of work ahead of me, so not only am i out in the heat, im carrying around a mail bag, clambering up hills and long drives.
personally i dont think its acceptable

Here is an idea which fits with both sides of the H&S issue.

We buy it and keep the receipt.

Claim it back from Royal Mail.

That means we get the right protection for ourselves, and RM don't have to worry about the implications of someone using an incorrect type and suffering a reaction because of it.

simple answer is start earlier and finish before the sun hits its peak, also if you look at the h&s website it recomends altering working hours in the summer but as we all those above decide to send us out in the heat of the day. :cfo :cfo :cfo

like we used to, oh the good old days. makes me laugh, they beat u down with health and safetey bullshit everyday, but when it comes to real health and safety they havent got a clue.

Why not see if you can claim tax relief on sun cream? noe being cheeky, but if you follow the instructions, and re apply the cream regularly, then it can be quite expensive.
