Yes, there are some people, who've let their tempers get the better of them recently. The same thing happened in '07, and will probably happen whenever tensions are high. That's why we have Moderators. I must admit, that over the weekend, I wasn't able to keep up. And I'm sorry that you seem to think that we've let you down. But we're only Human, and can only do so much.

Whenever things get out of hand (e.g. the FAO: the head in the sand brigade thread). We have to try to balance freedom of speech, with the need to avoid people suffering abuse. We've had people on BOTH sides of the argument, considering leaving. And in a couple of cases, even challenging us to give them a permanent Ban! Because both sides think that we're favouring the other.

The fact of the matter is: Although we all have our own opinions. And as Moderators and Admin, we're just as entitled to express them as everyone else. When it comes to people getting out of hand: We try to be as fair as possible, even if that means going against our own beliefs.

For example: I personally, have a very dim view of anyone who works for free and uses their own car. Because it gives the Managers leverage, to try to force others to do the same. But if someone starts giving someone abuse about it, rather than trying to convince them that they're wrong, in a Civilised manner. Then I can, and do, intervene.

What more can we do?

Yes, there were some terrible comments made. And you're quite right to be furious about it. But they were dealt with at the time, and continuing to taunt people, in a transparent attempt to get those you dislike Banned. Isn't going to help really, is it?

calpsy, may I apologise on whoever's behalf it was who upset you but answering back just fuels the problem.

You must understand though that a mentality like 'the job is fooked' so I'll just do what I want will always attract unwanted attention. It's a little like knocking the whole dam down because you spot a hole in it. We should all band together in times like this.

Whilst i can't condone some of the comments you've received,it seems you are harbouring
a lot of resentment towards something,and in your time in Royal Mail,rightly or wrongly
you've seen other people cutting corners and decided if it's good for them it's good for me.
So it's not just what you've said(in your posts)it's your actions that have upset people,for me
you have actually raised a good issue that i have touched on before,how do the union go about
clamping down on this?
By that i mean,for all the talk of sticking together,i assume it is the same in your D.O. that
it is very much a case of every man for himself.
I have to disagree with you though,as regards what will be will be,we are now at the start of
summer savings,and should be lapsing more duties,but we simply don't have the staff to cope,
if anything we won't see job losses more likely the opposite.
I can give you an example of why you should try and 'do the job properly'.
We have just had literally hundreds of free light bulbs for every walk,and we have been instructed
to doorstep them,(not leave a notice or even knock on the door)while you might think great,it all
takes hours out of the office,and is a clear sign of the businesses contempt for the job.
Don't give them anything for nothing!

It reflects what happens in our office.People are bickering and have your say wasn't pretty.
Everyone is under pressure and the management seem to encourage certain workers to "manage" the rest.
But we need to stick together and try and discuss things rationally.If people are doing something and can't see the long term drawbacks then tell them so,but no need to go mental.
Our office has early boys and slow coaches.Some rush and go home early and some slow time so they can carry on doing a 3 hour walk in 4 hours.
I like to think i'm somewhere in the middle :p
All we can do is sort things out at our own offices first.
People will always have different opinions and its arrogant to always think your view is the correct one.

Andy. All will agree with you that there's a need to balance freedom of speech with the need to avoid people suffering abuse and I personally believe that you and your colleages do a great job in keeping this most valuable resource running. That same balance between freedom and abuse is an issue in the wider world following the election of those two BNP MEPs, not that that's an issue that should merit too much discussion on here.
