Conference feedback

Post by Big Daz »

The feedback Is rubbish

Its day 3 and nothing on HQ website to show if ecah motion fell or was carried.

Political motions were discussed yesterday, but I cant find anything to say what the outcome was.

Has conference been hoodwinked again on the link with Labour?
Has billy spoken against splitting the political fund into two, like he did last year?

Do the leadership support the principle that we the rank and file should decide the future with Labour and now is the time to do that regardless of what happens withe RM sell off?

Too many vested interests in keeping the link!!!!!

Brother Big Daz well done that Branch :Applause :Applause :Applause

But although some of the wording may appear self-explanatory could you give an explanation of what the following actually mean in relation to Conference and to the CWU membership in layman's terms.

ACCEPTED - CARRIED - NOT HEARD - FELL - WITHDRAWN

ACCEPTED - CARRIED - NOT HEARD - FELL - WITHDRAWN

1) NEC have accepted the motion and it is now offical CWU policy

2) Carried means Confeence have debated and voted yes to the motion

3) Not Heard will mean the motion did not get debated, I presume it's a time issue

4) Fell is the exact opposite of carried, conference debated and voted against the motion

5) Withdrawn means the submitters of the motion have withdrawn the motion so therefore conference do not debate or vote on the motion.

If only these conferences had been around when the Montgolfier brothers were experimenting with early flight, we would have had a man on the moon by 1869

"not carried" is the opposite of "carried".

"Fell" or "Falls" is when a motion is carried that either contradicts another motion or is simillar to, but worded differently to , another motion. Often, when a motion is carried, many subseqent motions will fall. Branches from around the country often submit simmilar. but differently worded motions. Conference , asissted by the running order of motions decided by the standing orders committee(SOC) will eventually carry the preffered motion, well mostly.

motions that Fall are not heard at conference.

Hi all and thanks for the plug Daz.

I've been a busy bee and just finished putting Mondays report on the mini site http://www.cwue5.org/conf09" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And despite what some say about me on here...you know who you are... I do put in a load of hours in to my union stuff.
Not easy being Branch Secretary & editor but at least I work hard & I'm HONEST...(again, unlike some I could mention)

Give the mini site a visit and let me know what you all think.

Looks to me that the political motions were 'talked out' (debate allowed to go on longer than it should on one motion in order that a more 'controversial' motion is not heard) I hate that tactic, it should be banned and the chairman should be called into account for such actions.

There's links to 2008, 2007 & 2005 conference mini sites (google removed the 2006 for some reason).
