When I do driving duties I have to prep various businesses ie local council, then I have to go and deliver some of them before 8am aswell as doing 9am Specials most of which are rural ones that take ages to find. When I return I have to sort out my large packets, tie my walk up, collect large packets off the guys on my bus, then load the van up and in between all that try and fit a 20 min break in. Wish I had the time to stand around drinking coffee and smoke.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

We have 27 rural driving duties, 2 firms and 8 bike deliveries. Everyone goes on IPS until everything is clear, flats, letters and packets. Once the IPS is clear eveyone sorts the bulk firms deliveries which takes about 10 mins. The only people who don't go on the sorting now are a couple of the more recent starters who are on 30 hour contracts. We still struggle to clear in time even with nearly everyone on the sorting.

Drivers don't do the sorting in my office, the reason being that firms want their mail early. However, many walks have schools, firms etc that are meant to be taken by drivers, but aren't because we IPS mugs don't get off IPS till 8 sometimes, and the drivers have fooked off long before we've thrown out.

Drivers didnt go on sorting at my old office, it was 100% town walks there, and drivers did all the firms plus the packets that were too heavy/bulky for the posties.

Four Drivers do ALL THE IPS work in my office, then part timers sally in at 8am start throwing off thier own walks, have cig breaks, stand chatting, meal relief etc.

Us full timers are getting shafted, soon we will be throwing off all walks, sorting out the office so part timers can come in and pick up a bag & go out. :no no

SovietOnion73 wrote:Just a quick question we have high volumes of mail that come into our office at a meeting recently it was agreed we would have no less than 23 people on the sorting but after a couple of weeks due to high levels of sick its dwindle down to about 15 thats including letters/packets by the way and we have a total of 90 people in our office Our dom is allways banging on aswell about when he needs us most at what times of the day so my point is this in our office drivers do not go on the sorting at all they only box off and prep then spend the rest of the time standing outside smoking and drinking coffee/tea is the norm across royal mail or do drivers go on the sorting for the duration like walkmen, as im about to bring this up at a resource meeting with the dim dom in our office.
Sounds to me that your drivers are showing RM all they need to know about their duties and that very soon their might be 1 or 2 less of them

Our drivers help seg the packets between drivers and walkers.

The distribute the D2Ds to the duties and when busy will sort the mech bundles to the walks.

However, they cant help on IPS and flats as they have to do the 9am specials and the timed deliveries some off which are 7.30am.

TBH I think they do more than they want to do but as FT positions are being filled by PT without being made up they have to make sure the works there to keep their duties, at the moment on my section we are down by about 20% on FT positions.

No! They buzz around the frames constantly clearing their mail and some go out
and deliver a few parcels! I wish I could drive...

Not in our office.
But to be fair,if they did they wouldn't finish in time. Its like a packet mountain in our office.
But if they did have time i'd think it was only fair if they came on to help.I'm sure the odd day they could do.

Our drivers also throw off the large packets in the yorks - between pissing about and going out for fags etc - whilst theres about 5 or 6 people on each division of the ips, the rest of the office throws up walks for part timers , managers just stand around making their hands disappear.
