the irony is that a lot of them are scared of Brown because of his temper , there's a few people that reckon that Mandy has got something on him though - the infighting between the Blairites & Brownites is indulgent , who wants either of them ?

The Deputy PM has been sidelined by Brown when Harriet Harman beat Alan Johnson at the election for one. IIRC it happened at the same time as Brown was crowned.

What everyone agrees is that Mandelson is the Deputy PM in all but name, he has taken on all the responsibilities of deputy in that he supports Brown publicly, briefs against anyone who complains about Brown and is in charge of the whips.

Even if he was "technically" the Deputy he would not qualify as AFAIA its a position that you can only be elected to not selected for. Still its not unheard of for the BBC and Sky to use incorrect definitions when describing something.

Basically brown is using him as a front man and even though Mandy was a Blairite he'll sell his soul and his mothers soul just to get and keep a grip on some power. This country would be a lot better of if both Brown and Mandy did the right thing.

I was reading the Guardian on the train yesterday , it took a while but it was a good read , better than all that hysterical rubbish in the tory papers , the anyalsis was that in some ways :mfo has saved his skin but the message for McRuin was watch out .

The view on Johnson being Home Secretary was that Brown had given him a poisoned chalice to keep him busy - also it's a graveyard for New Labour Ministers , The Sheffield Stud - Blunkett , Butt Plug , sorry bath plug Jacqui , Ex Tanky Reid , Straw , Big Ears Clarke who is very bitter
