I want to crucify a manager: Advice please.
I dont know if I should do this here, but I need advice.
I had a confidential meeting with a manager, who assured me that what I said would go no further. He wrote down some notes .He told me it was a fact finding interview and that he would use parts of my statement in his notes but he assured me that neither the alleged bullies, the CWU reps or the DOM would see my notes. The case was a bullying and harassment Case which I had witnessed. It was something that had been going on for a while and the guy who was the victim was all over the place and it had gone too far. He put in a grievance and 6 of us backed him up. But I was the only one to put my name down as the manager told me nobody would see the notes. (He ASSURED me of this).
Lo and behold, yesterday, the 2 guys who had the grievance brought against them bought photo copies of my statement into the office and banded them around like it was the Sunday papers.
Now I confronted the manager who only yesterday in front of another manger assured me that my interview was of no use to him and therefore would not be used at the disciplinary meeting.
He then told me in no uncertain terms that he had basically lied to me and had passed the notes to the 2 bullies.and basically he had set me up to strengthen his case.
Now the 2 bullies I do not give a toss about, I can handle them. But I am sick to my stomach to think that a manager could lie, set me up and think he can get away with it. He did not have my permission to use my statement at the hearing. He has admitted lieing and acted appalingly today under scrutiny.
I want to put in a grievance against him and anyone else who has stepped out of line in this matter. Can anyone set me straight please.

Absolutely disgusting! Get a grievance in ASAP and phone the B&H helpline and report the matter. Go above every ones head on this. If your rep isn't involved, get him in as well. Bullies I have no time for, lying managers who have stitched you up are among the worst. That sort of action could quite easily have resulted in you being assaulted.

manager has effectively crucified himself, ensure you get evidence of this photocopy showing your statement . . he won't be about for much longer.

I would also get my own back on the manager by letting everyone in your office know what he did.. Being a manager he should have know better.. Hope you sort it out mate and don't let it lie because they will just do it over and over again..

Re: I want to crucify a manager: Advice please.
I am sorry to hear this has happened to you, the same thing happened in my office when a postie's statement was passed straight to the manager this postie was complaining about by a senior manager. You should not let this rest, as someone stated you should phone up the CWU Harassment and Bullying hotline and make sure you put in a grievance, this manager needs to be dismissed, your statement should not have ended up in hands of the bullies, this manager as not protected you within the work place, you should not rest until this manager is dismissed or he ends up at a employment tribunal because this is a fundermental breach of trust and confidence, this is really not on, also seek some legal advice from an employment lawyer.

It is ! , arrogant , unprofessional , spiteful & childish but it doesn't surprise me at all - I think ? what that " manager " has tried to do is twist everything round and use the Prevention of Harassment Act 97 as a counter charge i.e. to a reasonable person would be class as to cause alarm & distress .
It's b***ocks , proper harassment has to be in your face , stalking , threats , iffy phone calls etc - Call his bluff , his & RM's arrogance is his Achilles heel .
Obviously RM wanted the original complaint " bottomed " or buried - it's laughable as there was a case at East London MC when it took the union six months to get staff back who were " intimidating witnesses " . RM cocked that one up as they didn't interview " material witnesses " but I don't think they ever intended to
The Union knew that it would be laughed out of a tribunal , so I agree with seeing a employment lawyer as he or she would define this and that as such and such thing ( s ) .
Worst one I've seen was a " Independent Investigating Manager " telling someone to ignore thieving by friends of a manager - he didn't ! , he shopped them to the IB , so RM interviewed people who they knew that didn't like that guy and sacked him on trumped up B&H charges .
The fit up is to teach you a lesson to keep your nose out and mouth shut , especially with " favoured sons " - I'm sure it's encouraged from on high .

Re: I want to crucify a manager: Advice please.
The very same style of managerial incompetence or deliberateness happened in Oxford centre on the back of a 17 day strike over bullying and harassment in 2004.

I saw the spin put on in the glossy management magazine with a lot of pictures inbrothermagrew wrote:The very same style of managerial incompetence or deliberateness happened in Oxford centre on the back of a 17 day strike over bullying and harassment in 2004.

It said " A fight in the canteen , an old fashioned show of hands in the car park " - RM must have got a PR firm to insinuate they were all 70's dinosaurs striking about something and nothing
The same magazine had an article about DO staff being given a lesson in reality by RM - that's a contradiction in terms if there ever was !
There was an article in " Voice " about an independent firm " Success Factor " being brought in to investigate as nobody trusted RM - don't know if anyone has scanned it in and made a PDF & put it up on the internet
There is a link about that episode , think it was Linkin Park asking for known instances of deliberate RM H&B
