Possibly be sick soon, what will happen?

Hi all, basically i damaged my thigh yesterday while out of work and was in severe pain, i decided to goto work this morning and do my delivery and informed the managers of my injury and that i might not be able to complete as i was in pain and could only walk at a very slow pace and i have several blocks of flats which i struggled to deliver to and almost causing myself extra injuries, my dom said that if i needed to cut off if i never completed the round i would have to ring them, i decided even tho i severly struggled and was in pain especially going down steps to complete the round 40 mins over my alloted time ie 1.40pm. Tomorrow is my day off but as things stand my leg is a lot worse and i can barely walk without severe pain which todays round obviously aggravated, what i need to know is if i have to go sick for friday, will i be entitled to sick pay and will i get a stage warning (i do not know the process of these things) i have been at royal mails disposal since march 08 but only as a 24 hr contract worker since january( 1 hr contract before then).

You should be entitled to sick pay - but only at 24 hours pw in line with your contractual hours.
If you are off sick for 7 days or less you can self certificate. If you are off for more than 7 days
you will need a doctor's certificate - if you think this might be likely you had best get an appointment
with your GP as soon as you can.
You would trigger a Stage 1 sickness warning if you have 14 days or 4 absences in a 12 month period.

ahh so u dont hit a stage 1 unless its 14 days or more or 4 different abscences?, cool as ive been misinformed that id get a stage warning if i was sick just on one occasion even if only 1 day. I aint had a day off sick since ive been here and dont intend to unless really necessary, but i dont want to walk 7 miles with a Fxxcked leg in pain again i can tell u.

If you have been employed for over 12 months you should be ok.
I think it's different if you have been employed for less than 6 months
and are still on trial.

Oh yes - I forgot to say if you think you might be able to work on Monday, phone
your DO on Saturday to say you are fit to resume on an exempt day (if Saturday is
your exempt day) and will be in on Monday. That way Saturday and Sunday won't be
counted as sick days.

Yeah I don't work in a DO, but I think you need to phone in sick on Friday (1 hour before your
attendance time) to say you will be off sick. Then phone in on Saturday (at the end of your
attendance time) and say you are fit to resume work and will be in on Monday, That way
only Friday and Saturday (2 days) should be counted as sick days.
When you return on Monday you will have to complete a self certificate and have a return
to work interview with your line manager. Make sure you only put down the Friday and Saturday
5/6-6/6, as your days off sick. If you don't they will count Sunday as a day off sick.

cheers mate thats helped a lot, hopefully this leg sorts itself out and i dont have to have days off sick at all. 1 of the temp managers is a supposed physio for a local football team and he told me that stretching it as in doing my walk would help it lol - the lies they come up with are classic!

You're welcome - hope your leg gets better, but don't try coming back to work
until you think you are ok or you might just make it worse and end up having
more time off and being staged.

You're right about it making it worse doing your walk, because you've got Mailbags to carry. But aparently, gentle exercise can help a lot.

Why can they not put you on light duties for a day or week or two helping out in the office and or take the odd bit out after a few days!. And getting back to full dutys quicker but if you have a really bad leg you should not go anywhere and rest up!. Hope this helps you.

I will tell the doubters something about working with sore legs and the exercise doing them good .

When i first joined in Nov 07 i could hardly walk . I had an accident and my right knee area was knackered . ligament or whatever is there was really sore .

Started the job anyway and it was hard but eventually the pain went away totally . Still get little jabs telling me its not fixed and i will probably need an operation at some point but the excercise does help 100%

gunna ring them in morning and tell them it too bad, been told by a fellow colleague that i will be on a stage 1 even if i have 1 day off which seems a bit harsh/untrue?, basically doing my round yesterday made it worse than what it was like as soon as i injured it, if they choose i suppose i can go in and prep walks etc, but i am definitely not carrying heavy mailbags/walking up flights of stairs etc, i feel like i am gunna cause myself more harm by tripping over myself!

No one can doubt it helped you as only you can be the judge of that but this is a postman who has sustained an injury is it not right that if he wants too work that he be give the opportunity and not go sick he tried to walk it of but it did not work! I THOUGHT ROYALMAIL WAS A CARING EMPLOYER!.
