in my office, we have folk, part time, who were 30 hours, and bought down to 22 hours, some getting between 3 and 5 grand.

Now, the same folk, are working more hours now than they were when on 30 hours?

Double prepping for 2 hours a day- 6 days a week.working day off, overtime,

Got me thinking- if your long service full time, you can buy down to 22 hours, get a lump sum, and when, and it will be when, a national agreement is made on 4 1/2 hours - ker ching- because you will be the most senior part timer- your made up to full time again!

Easy eh- and in the meantime, you can get ot by coming in and dble prepping and workin your day aff.

Problem is you will get holiday pay, sickness pay, bonus payments, and pension pro-rata.
And RM are cutting OT and SA, so you might not get OT in future, and maybe 'banked hours'
instead, when they bring that in.

who knows mate, you may, get a 40 hour contract, as the business wants 4 1/2 hour, 2 man deliveries, by van.
Only time will tell, but as a cynic,if the cwu says it aint gonna happen, get doon the bookies and lump yir wages on it going ahead.

Bought-down his hours, to a 10hr contract.

Received about £9000, if he's telling the truth.

He started coming in and doing shedloads of overtime, doing (including his 10 contractual hrs) well over 40hrs per week, thinking how clever he was.

Now he finds overtime is being rationed, and we may well lose the weekend network at our office too, shortly.

He only got a fraction of the recent Colleague Share payout.

When the £9k has long since been spent, how's he gonna survive on 10hrs pay ???

Indeed you must take the long term view, 9000 is less than a full time wage after 12 months, then you make a net loss after that, I rather be on full time and GUARANTEED wages than depending on OT to make up, in my office they are cutting casual OT to the minimum using "flexibility" to do so, lights days compensates for heavy days all hours should average out, doesn't work if you get a heavy week.

If you really want to leave, then look for other jobs whilst still full-time with Royal Mail was what I was saying. Don't be tempted onto the buy-down of hours route, because the payout will soon be eaten up by ordinary living expenses if that 'other employment' proves harder to find than you first thought.

Because seniority is how long you have worked for if you become part time you will work 20 hour's a week while the guy on forty hours behind you by six months will overtake you in a year!.

At my DO you would keep your seniority except for one thing. On a repick if a FTimer with less seniority than a PTimer picks the same walk its given to the FTimer.
