getting crap off Managment for doing job properly

Post by NWpostie »

Yesterday I got a shed load of Mail, said I may over, was told I can't book overtime, the line supervisor is actually a nice guy, but his hand is tied by the Management , the acting Manger (the regular oneis on Holiday) came round rather quickly and spoke to me in an intimidating manner telling me to take everything and NOT book overtime, he had a nasty temper and nobody likes him, reported him to the Union about his attitude, the Union is having a word with him, so will see what happens there, I am going to cull if he doesn't like me booking, seems to be the norm if you book you have to attend an Interview to explain why as you should have a light Mon and Tues with flexiblity over the rest of the week, Bullshit !!, the start of this week was heavy, I am expecting them to say I will be monitored, last time they tried that I said "Bring it on, all of it, prep rate, walk rate. coming out on delivery with me" pretty soon called their bluff, I am expecting they will be back for more, many in here just shut up come in early and don't book for the quiet life.

I have been away on holiday when I came back I noticed things have declined a lot, been in this Job 21 years and I feel like getting out but there is no other Jobs,

really pissed off as I am come in at 06.30 offical start time, yet everybody is in at 5am onward, they are all gone out of the Office before me and using their Cars, I refuse to use my Car and work to a measured pace, no rush, following proceedures, yet I am getting all this Crap, one day when they want a favour off me I am to tell them to stick it, one day they will really need me as there is nobody else and I will take pleasure in saying "No"

I thought RM was saying" you are not expected to work beyond your hours and work all the hours you are paid, nobody will be made to work beyond their abilities, guess nobody at the Shop floor level heard that"

Just want to sound off and hopefully hear some tips from you Guys going through the same thing.

total sympathy wi you mate- ive 20 years, and lately, ive seen nothing like it.
The job is officially phucked , its only going to get even worse.Theres a new breed of manager now, right across the board, intimidate, lie, wind you up, annoy you, scout, prep, harrass, and even tell you when your having your break.
This is what the cwu leadership should be tackling, and now.
How very sad it is, when i see folk ive worked with for over 2 decades wi heads bowed, lookin pissed off, not having banter, going without breaks, i know the future is bleak.

My advice is to carry on with what you're doing but note everything down in a note book so that you'll have a record of everything that happens.

NWPostie this is exactly what is happening to me at the moment - questioned everytime I book OT - and my response has been exactly the same as yours - "feel free to come out with me and walk test it but you will see I am not booking unnecessary OT" to which he replies he hasn't got time. Two days on a running I've had this and if I get the same tomorrow i'm off to see union. I myself like you do the job as it should be done - no car, no running round and I definately won't go in early like the stupid idiots in our office who do just to get finished early. Now don't get me wrong I don't mind going over as long as they don't moan about me booking it but if that's their attitude then I will work to my time and no more. Also I've been on the same walk for 4 months and booked all that time with no comebacks until yesterday and it's one of the biggest walks on that code area - nearly 800 drops and nobody else wanted it because it was that bad!!!! So I sympathise with you I know exactly where you're coming from!

Looks like it's the same everywhere. This indicates a national policy of psychological bullying techniques to intimidate the work force.

If you fight back and resist, properly, they back off, like all bullies do. This policy hopes you will weaken and come in early, use your car etc etc for an easy life. Take them to the limit and Royal Mail's own policy document on Work Related Stress (2004) as posted on here negates all the rubbish they throw at us in 2009.

:cfo and his puppets / muppets are killing this job/service. The Labour establishment supported :cfo in 2007. Hayes and Ward backed down to all this. The groundswell will come from the oppressed in the D.O's across the land.

This sort of thing isn't happening in my office. Very rarely to do I have to cut or book over but it is so rare that it isn't an issue for managers. Amazing how it seems to vary from area to area. Very much inspired by the Posties who are facing down management though. Keep up the good work and don't let them grind you down. Clearly, this is what they're trying to do, so just don't let it happen. If they want, let them come out with you in a couple of weeks in 30c heat and watch them wilt as you stroll around at normal pace and still don't get anywhere near finished. :lfo :cfo :mfo

This flexibility agreement is what started all this, its a Managment charter to abuse the system and everybody.

so its a National thing not just my office, PMN you are lucky, if your Office ever comes under pressure then you will see some of the Bullying, that is exactly what it is, I predict a massive breakdown in relations and no goodwill all over the Country, I certainly don't feel any, I am quite angry and a little stressed out by this, this particular person is a Nasty little terrier.

I am hoping for another strike so we can air this greviences and bring it to Public attention as somebody said earlier there is so many times you can kick a Dog.

Its not really the flexibility agreement thats at fault its the managers spin thats put on it. What your manager is asking you to do is to bank hours and that is not allowed, that is not the flexibility agreement, its just their take on it.

Banking hours is not allowed, having said that many are happy to go over at the end of the week for making an early mon tue, i say thats up to them, but dont let it affect what you are doing. You are right!!!!

I now do the job properly cut off if over and im the only one to do it in my office, they will call every bluff they can, but in the end its just hot air, and the union backed me all the way, UP THE CWU :Applause :Applause

I should say, we haven't had pegusus yet but it will be here in a few months. This might be why are office isn't yet too bad but suffice to say, judging by what has happened in other offices I'm not looking forward to its introduction here.

looks like its the same everywhere with the way management are trying to bully people, buy i look at it differently i use to come in early and use the car and rush around like most people did when it was job and finish why would nt you,but now its gone so has all that, i come in on time use van have break and you know what its great lineos don t hassle me cus then know if they do i will just cut off and bring it back they sign my docket no problem when ever i want to book on which even now in summer is 2 or 3 times a week ,no stress from rushing about like i use to in my view its great but i have been in rm for 20 years and i know all the procedures and what they can and cant ask me to do and if i dont know i find out,so if u want a stress free job do it properly .

We're starting to get this attitude with certain people, we've had one person moved from his fixed duty, looks as though we may have another moved, someone else has been threatened with the sack because so say not quick enough. It's really hard to fight it, but we're trying our best. It would seem as though this comes from further on up, not sure how far but I expect its from the top.

Come back to work this week to find out apparently our DOM can't pay OT now, what people should do is save the time up and then take a day off, no DOM here is week , so can't confirm if this is for everyone or only certain people, but what a joke.

I really think the top guys of the union has really let us down, it really hard getting any solid advice from area rep, TBH I get more help and information from this site than I do from the CWU.

But it really seems as though we're getting near the bottom of what we can take regarding offices having hours cut and still able to get job done, we've been trying to get cars banned but have come up against a brickwall. same as getting people to take their breaks, I can't believe how few people take a break.

Reading some of the replies, makes me think you all work in Dunfy, yup it's the same up here,The sector manager, has let it be known that since all the exec action in the various offices in his area, his budget has overshot by £86000!!!,it was meant to save money!!!
So he has told his managers to crack down on the OT,I intially thought that this was a local thing, but reading the replies here makes me wonder if orders from further up,have said to cut costs in preparation for the sell off?
but all thats going to happen is folks are going to cut off,we can win this, even with the selfish twats who come in early and take cars etc
.
Keep up the good work folks
The more you know, the worse it gets.
