Flexability
Can someone answer this,
We've just started to prep a couple or p/t deliveries, two groups of 4 prepping 2 walks.
Now I for a fact that by doing this and prepping my own walk and delivering it'll take me over my time (with meal relief taken).
When I mentioned this to the DIM,he just quotes Flexability 1/2hr a day , you can't book it!
I thought they had to give you a days notice if your going to work past your time .
I don't want the overtime, but am being told I can't cut off either!
Whats the official line on this feckin flexability ?
:mfo :cfo :lfo :mfo :cfo :mfo

Re: Flexability
The '30 minutes' is there to take account of an unexpected increase in mail or circumstances outside of the normal control of the office. It is not there to be added onto your normal daily hours as an extension to your duty to enable lapsing. If there are too many instances of the '30 minutes' being incurred the Rep and the DOM need to have a meeting to source the problem. Any '30 minutes' that are giving by the employee to RM must be returned by the end of the week as you are not obliged to work beyond 40 hours per week, otherwise it can be claimed as overtime.
You will see posted elsewhere the actual reference to the 30 minutes in the Pay and Mondernization forum. I hope this helps.

Re: Flexability
You dont have to do over-time, and if this extra prep is causing you to do this inform the manager that it is up to him either allow you to cut off or stop trying to force you to do extra work. Tell him that you feel he is pressuring you to do additional work without any benefit to you.If he keeps insisting then bung in a greivence against him stating you are been caused undue stress.

Re: Flexability
Not too sure about anything at all at the mo same sort of sh**t going on down my way
Pegasus threw my wlk over was promised table top revision
Collapsing of duties extra 1/2 hour a day rep agreed to this
Completed duty but went 1/2 hour OVER was told cant book because Tue is a light day LONGS&SHORTS
Spoke to Rep to see what could be done NOTHING
Heres the no brainer Rep told me that as far as hes concerned we are still on Job&knock ie we go out at 9am told him could not possibly be ready to go out at 9am more like 10am DO THE JOB PROPERLY
So it seems to me we are working two systems JOB&KNOCK & LONGS& SHORTS which ever suits on the day

Re: Flexability
Ok,let's get this straight,if i'm wrong then someone in the know can correct me....
Long and shorts was an enabler in the p&m deal, some have got it some aint.
If you have got it,it usually means that your duty times are different over the week.
IE: mon=8hrs,tue=7hrs,wed=8.30hrs,thurs=8.30hrs ect this is just an example of what your shifts time could be.
This is what your unit would have agreed with RM.
If you have not agreed to this then your duties will be 8hrs a day for a 5 day week end off!
They can't then bang in long and shorts because you have had an easy tuesday, you have no agreement on this, you owe them NO hrs for a light tues.
30mins flex is 100% voluntary, you either cut off or you claim, end off!!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Flexability
under the flexibility agreement as i understand it a manager can ASK for 30 minutes on a particular day if the workload merits it but this has to have no impact on your contracted weekly hours. therefore if your asked for example to work 30 minutes over on a tuesday then u can say yes provided i go home 30 minutes early on saturday for example.
the key thing is that they can ask you, not tell you. anything over your scheduled hours is bookable

Re: Flexability
Postman AFAIK the enabler longs&shorts was only a paper exercise in our offfice to comply with P&M agreement in reality JOB&KNOCK still exists 9am + 3.5hrs = 12.30 + extra 1/2hr =1300 finished paid till 14.15

Not my union if you lot voted it in then tough my rep wouldnt piss on that and if yours did its because he did as you told him. If you didnt vote on it then take a vote and go through the ir framework and join the party.Pinky 1 wrote:In our office we've got long and shorts ( long Mondays and Fridays, short Tuesdays and Saturdays ) .... Re: Flexability
write to your DOM informing them of your concerns on the day in question and cc in your local rep your area rep and your branch, then work your hours and, if you come up short, you come up short. If you can save the letter on a computer and change the date as and when required, also keep a tab on the dates you sent off letters for your records
i believe we need to go through these protracted motions to highlight our treatment at local level.
As strange as this sounds should your DOM be a little vindictive hitler like many are nowadays this paperwork may also be of some support in any harrassment or grievance cases you bring in the future.
keep a diary and NOTE EVERYTHING FROM NOW ON no matter how insignificant you feel it is.

Re: Flexability
A couple of years ago i went to a meeting in Guildford for union reps and line managers.
At the meeting this half an hour flexibility was mentioned and it was stated categorically that it was ONLY to be used in exceptional circumstances i.e. lorry breakdown etc. and was to be paid back by the end of the working week.
We were also told that it was NOT to be abused and any abuse was to be reported.
Unfortunately DOMs appear to have a selective grasp of the English language and the words "NOT" and "ONLY" appear to have different connotations to them, every time i ask what the hell is going on and why they are abusing the half hour flexibility all i get is shrugs.
The staff now are at least starting to work the correct times and because of this we are having difficulties getting rounds out, tough!!.
