Re: 8.am start time
Not yet, but it wouldn't surprise me at all, especially once they have the walk sorter machines in, as from what I gather they add time to the first part of the morning.
It will be interesting to see what reason they give for the change, also I expect they'll want our early start money as well.

Re: 8.am start time
No not quite. If you move office you will lose the early start money. If you stay at the same office you will keep it under "Grandfather" rights. The 8 am start has been mooted in the office i'm at but like everythingelse it's not in black and white!!!!! Mind you when we have "failure" dims in charge no change there!!!!custard wrote:trythat wrote:Not yet, but it wouldn't surprise me at all, especially once they have the walk sorter machines in, as from what I gather they add time to the first part of the morning.

Re: 8.am start time
I hope you also enjoy walking round with 16kgs during the hottest part of the day in summer, probably with no place to get any refreshments, and then trying to see what letters go to what house in the dark during the winter ( especially if it is p*ssing down ) - can't speak for others, but imo I don't want the early start for the early knocking off, I'd rather be delivering in cool tempetures and daylight!ramsay ladders wrote:In my office I fear I would be in a minority of 1 but bring it on! well said.this summer if the weathermen are to be believed is meant to be a scorcher.as we have had a wet summers and reasonable tempretures for the last couple of years the effect of absorbtion of duties and getting out later in which we stay out longer at the hottest time of the day will surely be tested.will it take a serious incident in which someone colllapses to review the time we actually start deliveries.our delivery office the town rounds are nearly all geeting out at 9.45-10 am so for a 3.5 deilivery will be out to 1.30 pm at the earliest

Re: 8.am start time
A number of Posties everywhere pick Kids up from school, often as Patner is working, eventualy most people adat lifestlye around job.
think later starts will eventauly happen or RM try to bring them on,ie new machines can only sort so much at a time, assuming all working ok ,and greater distances from Mail centers.
I think the majority of Posties on Delivery would be against later starts,we had 6.30 starts in our office for a while, and on a heavy day being able to do school run was close, then in winter, its getting dark ,NO THANKS ,NOT FOR ME.
As for being out in the hotteset part of the day,we warned our Managrs about the safety implications ages ago, only to be ignorned. If we have a goog hot summer as they predict somewhere, could be problems.
Sounds sexsit but not ,the Girls on deliveries I know ,limit their fluid intake incase they need the Toilet when out on delivery, for guys its bit diferent, most have favourite relief spots or can find somewhere.
AS for going back to office,in most cases you would not compete on time, and the other guys on the van would get their bags late ,driver may not be able to do his job so not pratical, even with your own van if office is 20 minute drive away.
So hot weather increase your fluid intake only to increase the amount of urine ,but where to go?
Answerts from RM and CWU please ?

Re: 8.am start time
the majority of staff at our office are still getting the early start money, some only had it for a certain length of time, then it stopped. why do we need machinery to sort letters, when as we all know in delivery"letter volumes are falling year after year!!!!"custard wrote:trythat wrote:Not yet, but it wouldn't surprise me at all, especially once they have the walk sorter machines in, as from what I gather they add time to the first part of the morning.

If you read 'dingo's posts you will see that this could be a reality, this is why in part London are holding a strike ballot at the mo.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: 8.am start time
what people have to look at is the Dutch TNT model , it's said that RM have been using TNT to trial or test things over there that they wouldn't dare do in the UK . The problemdisgruntledpostie1 wrote:TBH I can see RM pushing for a 9-5 hours or even 10-6.
RM are looking for more TNT style regimentation in it's MC's , DO's & DC's , closing many places down , everyone bar key staff on 16 - 20 hr contracts , daytime middle shifts , weak union , casualisation etc .
Apparently TNT is regarded as a bit of a joke over there , twice a week deliveries , all on the cheap , expensive , dumbing down , glorified leaflet / free paper deliverers , race to the bottom .
Many of these parcel companies are known as slave drivers , if you think RM 's H&S is a farce , they're even worse , they wouldn't touch ex RM staff with a bargepole as they've a paranoid anxiety about heavily unionised cultures , it's part time staff under 30 as nobody older would be able to keep up .
If RM's senior management have to do the bidding of their European & New Liebour Masters , they'll be looking for a exit strategy as a reward which will mean mediocre state bosses will want to get on the private monopoly gravy train on their terms NOT the CWU's , Neo - Liberalism slash & burn , private cabals , snouts in the trough , b**locks to Joe Public etc .
It makes me laugh all this bigger will ride out the recession etc , :mfo is not the Old Queen of Darkness , more like a Arthur Daley type glorified spiv
