Had an accident and would like some advice.

Yesterday, I came off my bike going around a corner.

I have damaged my wrist, leg and shoulder. I lost my mobile in the confusion therefore could not phone work. I wanted someone to come and get me and take my last bag from me.
I decided to complete my duty in pain. My last bag taking me over 1 1/2 hours. Now, I got home and tried to ring the delivery office. No one picked up the phone all day. I managed to get someone I know to phone another line manager for me to tell them I would not be in today due to injury. I got a call this morning at 8.45 telling me I MUST come in and fill in an accident report. HOW do I do that . I cant drive, write or walk very far and the DO is 8 miles away. If I had been in a coma would they have asked me to come in???

Whats the situation here. Common sense says that when the injuries are better I can get in but to make me go in is in my view ludicrous?

Ring your Dom ASAP(ours has his own number with answer machine)and if he answers get him to ring you back,and fill in the Erica form over the phone telling him what happened,i done this myself not so long ago so dont take no for an answer.

Just ask your D.M to send you the form, they did this with me, so they can do it with everyone else.also, as I said on another link,advise D.W.P about this accident as it will entitle you to extra money, should you be of long term.

i'm sure brother magrew would be more accurate, although i feel you would need to offer them the opportunity to collect you and bring you into work and return you home or come to your house or possibly another agreed venue to fill out the froms if you are not i a position to attend your work premises under your own steam.

from previous experiance sign your name (if you are required to do so) directly after the full stop at the end of your statement.
Had a bloke some years ago now have his LM come out to his house fill out the accident form. on his return he inspected the form for some reason or another to see that the line manager had added at the end that this bloke accepted that it was his fault and would be more careful in the future.
He went to the HSE to tell them that his statement had been altered and they said you can't write over it or change it,as it is a leagel document, to which he pointed out that what is there is not what he had signed to and they told him he could add a note to the form stating this but no more. He pointed out that this legal document had been altered without his knowledge or agreement and was not a true account but they told him "we've told you what you are allowed to do.
So my friend be careful.

Tell your Dom (ignore the Line Manager) to send you the Erica accident form via 1st class post. When you have filled in the form, return it to Dom with your Doctors sick note (keep copy's of everything) Do not attend your Dly Office until you have a Doctors return to work certificate, Ensure your Doctor states "light duties" on subsequent certificates until you are fully recovered.
As this was an accident at work you are entitled to Full Pay.
BE Firm with Management, DO NOT ALLOW them to BULLY YOU, TAKE COMFORT from the fact that the vast majority of RM Managers are of little intelligence.
You are fully protected by RM, CWU and HSE.
Ask the Dom, Why was the office phone not manned? Where were the Line Managers, Shopping, At home, In the pub, Sleeping?
It is their DUTY to ensure that the office phone is manned.
Was your cycle at fault? Had it been correctly serviced. Was the road uneven or slippery? This must be risk assessed.
Under no circumstances accept any nonsense from them, They make the rules, You must apply them.

And make sure they put it in the accident book (ERICA) and consider regeristing it with the DDS!. And when you get invited for a stage warning you will trust me make sure the note's are correct and they don't use incident in the place of accident.

I did just what you all said.

I questioned why I should make my way to the office considering I was injured. So they did the ERICA over the phone.

Thanks again for your posts. Helped me alot. Oh yes, i also told them that the DO number was wrong and that I could not contact them and lo and behold the reply was, "Oh yes, the number changed 5, yes 5, years ago. We haven t updated Royal Mails website yet."

You shouldn't get a stage warning after an AOD... I dunno whether you do if they deem it was your fault though.

Yes. In fact, they HAVE TO send you a copy to sign, to confirm that it's accurate. If there isn't a copy signed by you, on file. There could be repercussions, should you need to claim against RM. How else would anyone know that the details haven't been altered?
