21 new vans in our office

Been told today that we are to double up come September & deliver two rounds working from the van including all packets & parcels for both rounds. Also start times may change finishing later. I am more worried about missing me footy on a Saturday now I have bought my season ticket.

Sounds like the new van share idea is coming your way. Good luck. Its one of the main reasons lincoln delivery office went out on strike a month or so back. Is this going to be rolled out all over as yet no news on this idea in the North East........

No doubt about it, this is the new delivery structure. It is intended that anyone whose delivery is within 1 mile of the DO will use an HCT - those out side that limit will become vanshare duties. According to the CWU they are not against in principle though certain criteria had to be met - which of course RM have no intention of adheriing to.

how exactly does this work .do you split delivery in two , coming back for break , or do you just go out and complete delivery ?.
we had option of this in Dundee West ,but there were no details of how it was to be done. health and safety would have to be strictly adhered to here. im in my fifties, and fear the worst.

We put all these questions to our manager like, Do both have the same day off, what happens if one goes sick & the other can't drive, does the driver get more money for filling van up etc? Guess what he didn't know. The van share duties will be self contained, ie you take all packets, parcels , specials & your own extra pouches for both duties, You could probably both do one at a time or both do own & then meet up to do large packets & parcels? I suppose if you both get on you could become a good team & both crack on? If you are paired with a slow coach then that's a different story?

PS Was told today also that the said vans are orange in colour & left hand drive?

Who does the firms that happen too be on or near the walk who does the collections boxes or P/O's who takes the 9'00 clocks or timed deliveries who prep's the "drivers" firms all these questions remain unanswered!.

driver does specials has some breakfast,does some packets,too busy to do any walking delivery as RM has stated,packets on increase,mail dropping.then the big xmas hits

.whoever thought this up wants shooting IT WON'T WORK.make sure of it

But I'm the least of their worries, 1/2 the office don't drive, and most of the rest are banned

Don't accept it yet - we have even been told by the yes men (DOM and liner's) at our office that there is no National agreement on this yet - they still think they can implement it but it really is not going to happen.

They tried it on at a small (16 duty) satellite office along with 4 and a half hour deliveries and it has failed spectacularly.

You simply cannot get people to do more work in less time again and again and again. In the real world, it does not work.

Refuse - Resist - get your local Union to involve National headquarters. No agreement - no deal.
