have any offices had any problems regarding the delivery of BNP election leaflets? our office was briefed on monday that we had to deliver these several members declared they wouldnt deliver these and were told by dom that apparently they had to find someone to deliver these and they would not be allowed to deliver other election leaflets.
after pressure from the cwu and it gaining local media coverage we have now been told we do have a choice if we want to deliver this rubbish.

We were told that we didn't have to take them if we don't want to.
Personally I didn't, but I asked the floater who covers my day off and she was happy to take them so problem solved.
Our Lino told us last time he was at another DO and all bar one guy refused to take them out, he was short of cash so that one guy took them all out in his own time and did them for about 15 rounds.
I told our DOM last week that I ddn't want to deliver the BNP leaflets and he said leave with me. Today he told me that he had found someone else who was able to do them, no hint that I would have to give up delivering any of the other election material.
I was asked to cover a day off today for someone who refused to do them. While I consider the BNP to be a bunch of neanderthal knuckledraggers they are still part of the democratic process in this country so I took them out and got O/T and payment for them.
I gave it some thought but in the end did mine today with the others and door to doors. At the end of the day i concluded that i am paid to put things through letter boxes both good and bad regardless of my own thoughts, so thats what i did.

that guy would have got over a weeks wages from doing that ;o if i had a week off i'd do the same for the coleagues at my office who diddnt wanna do them as your getting paid same as salary but can get done in less time (£35 = bnp electoral d2d for one walk / 2 hrs)
Although I don't personally agree with the BNP policies etc, if I was asked as part of my job to deliver their election material then I would.
It's only as ridiculous as delivering leaflets about college courses and double glazing/conservatories to old people's sheltered accommodation.
It's not for us to make a judgement on what people do/don't want to receive thru their letterboxes, we might be delivering to people interested in hearing what the BNP have to say. It's not the kind of people I wish to associate with though.
As a 2nd Gen Irishman, married to a 2nd Gen Jamaican / Bajan woman, I refused on the basis that I'm not the sort of turkey to vote for Christmas ( not in so many words ) - and it was accepted with no arguement or cajoling.

I agree here. We are not paid to decide what we deliver. But, in this instance, we have the right to refuse. Whether you decide to deliver them or not is a personal matter and I can see both sides of the argument.
While I won't vote for BNP or labour or Conservative, we must realise that they have the right to free speech, even though they might object to the same rights being granted to others. This is democracy and the alternative isn't one I would like to see.
