New Uniforms............or not?

Visting friends in worthing over the weekend, and notices several, if not all RM posties in the so called new uniform. Have other areas been issued yet...............not being funny, but from what I saw it looks awful - dirty grey colour and scruffy trousers (I wonder if the pocket lining is any thicker)!!

But seriously - what the hell is happening with the new issues. My manager said they uniform may not be changing at all now...........which after what I saw is a good thing!!

Maybe the money would be better spent on a trouser press and ironing area for each d office. Most of our guys look like tramps - and a colour change will make no difference at all!

What i want to know is will we ever be getting the combat style trousers? The current ones are sooooo uncomfortable..i ended up buying myself some navy pairs of trousers to wear! While were talking uniform does anyone else think its poor quality? zips in the fleeces are always going and shoes wear out mega quick regardless of excess walking!

Bob Taylor wins Business Manager Award, Workwear Section

Bob Taylor, National Uniform Manager for Royal Mail, was declared the winner in the Workwear Section of The Business Manager Awards presented as part of the Workwear and Corporate Clothing Show in Birmingham (1st April).

The award was presented by fashion and workwear design icon, Jeff Banks, at a glittering award ceremony held at the Hilton Metropole Hotel at Birmingham’s NEC.

Speaking of the awards, Bob said, “The new uniform has had great feedback from our wearers and our customers, and it’s really gratifying to have the team’s hard work recognised by industry professionals as well.”

Bob and his team have been working on the re-design of uniforms issued to postmen and women across the UK. The new range is currently being worn by operatives in the Brighton, Redhill and Thames Valley areas and will eventually be rolled out to 150,000 wearers later this year.

The most obvious change has been the colour scheme, which is now red and dark grey, but there have also been some changes to the specification, for instance patch pockets on trousers, an improved storm-proof coat plus better cut and improved fabrics.

The new clothing range, supplied by Dimensions Corporatewear of Castle Donington, Leicestershire, builds on the strengths of current range with improvements made as a result from feedback from postmen and women out in the field.

Sarah Allan of Dimensions Corporatewear, who has worked on the project with the Royal Mail team, said, “It is a real honour for Dimensions to be recognised alongside Bob and the Royal Mail team. We’re really excited about the prospect of rolling out to the remainder of the wearers. A lot of hard work and detailed research has been undertaken to ensure the garments are smart, comfortable and practical as well as meeting the wearers’ expectations in terms of performance.”

They've 'improved' it by shortening it. So now it'll be a blouson style jacket instead of the full length coat we have now. Just the job when it's pouring down with rain, I think not.

What happened to the new uniform which was announced last year? Does anyone have the new trousers that hold the handheld computers? Or even the new jackets which looks pleasing to the eye but is it good in all weathers.

We were all issued with the new uniform in my office last summer. The grey "combat" trousers are no different to the blue ones, except for the addition of one patch pocket, which most of the guys in my office think is on the wrong side for a right handed person (it's on the left thigh). The shorts are more like 3/4 length trousers, they come down below the knee. The fleeces are the same (as in the zips fall off), but in red. The new "cagoule" jackets are pathetic; The slightest drop of water goes straight through them, and they're too thin to even think about keeping you warm, so I haven't quite figured out the point of them. Oh, and the summer hats are like flying saucers, if everyone wore them in the office, no one would be able to move without bumping off each others, and you wouldn't fit through any doors!

Crap boots, crap shoes,done for more ankles/knees /hips and backs than you could dream about. Kecks are s**t(pockets last longer though)Fleecey bit like a sack for spuds ,and storm and shower s**t is still made out of blotting paper.However on the plus side, continuity is further maintained with the new shirts which after 20mins delivery are all sweat soaked and stink of ferret piss Or is it me

Please, please, if somebody can, post a picture of the new summer hat----is it worse than the old one?
just imagine, in a hundred years from now, in some R/M museum these monstrous fashions could be on display!
how can other countries seem to dress their staff correctly, while we end up looking like Co-co the clown?
