dogs on the loose?

was on a walk today and one of the cul-de-sac i was posting too had a cpl of alstation like dogs on the loose the owner was with them.
i did a few doors and then was getting nearer to oblivian(if you know what i mean).

in the end the owner took them back inside after i waited a while. and then i completed to remaining houses.
if i feel threatened can i just walk away even though 3/4 of the cul-de-sac remained to be done?

If your worried you could be attacked then take the mail back. Our DOM supports us 100% on anything like this and yours should too.

If they have a problem let them take the mail out and see of they bite

Yes, just write dog loose on the letters "as well as the date" and put them in a postbox. also mention it to your lino the next day, job done

On a walk i used to do there was a dog that was sometimes loose it "guarded" the whole close. I never went near it - I dont trust any loose dogs. Much safer to just take the mail back, you've got the right to.

also they asked what time we came so they should keep the door shut.

Its not the dog that wants hanging its the owners also refuse to deliver there and get the line manager to make it a call and collect.

Any responsible dog owner will not leave a dog loose unattended when they can reasonably expect daily visitors to that property.

I have seen dogs sat on doorsteps = no mail for that property + endorsed
I have seen dogs loose in a close = no mail for whole of close + endorsed

I will also not open a closed gate and deliver mail to a property with dogs running loose. Yes, dog owners have a right to exercise their own dogs in their own fenced off garden area but RESPONSIBLE dog owners will also leave a mailbox on the otherside of the gate which the postie can access or supervise their animals. And most people generally do.

What REALLY pisses me off though is the owners who grant their dogs access to the letterbox area INSIDE their house. This is the really dangerous time as often there is no warning of their impending attack on your fingers when you deliver the mail, until the last second. The vast majority of people in this category are not even at home. I would imagine most animal attacks are caused because of this, although I am not privy to the numbers unfortunately.

Do not take a risk with any dog loose is the simple guideline issued by both RM and the CWU Bring it back for delivery the next day and notify the Lino.

I don't want dogs owners to have metal protection cage behing the letter box. What I want them is to put up an external letterbox outside their house/flat.

I've just started a new duty this week and I have one cul de sac which I have only delivered to one due to a dog that's always running loose. Its always better to play the situation safe.
