Not all of them are bad but the good ones are moved on or fired quickly.

At work right now ours is tough, but fair. Pity she is only helping out while our usual one is drinking coffee/planning unrealistic routes and trying to sack people with trumped up wilful delay charges.

Think it's a basic job requirement, natural tossers slip in seamlessly .

They thrive on the powers that they are given. You must remember they are low level management. Remind them of it as well, winds em up no end.

Not, of course, that I would ever condone such behaviour

Seriously though, if you mention the magical word 'cut off' they seem to lose their powers somewhat and often are seen sulking in the corner with their thumbs in their mouths.

We have had three managers take EVR recently, and another three are due to go next month.
But it seems like they are the more decent ones who don't like the way things are going, and
have had enough.

It's because they're simply "yes men" all doing what the DOM tells them. It's a one way street.

Any line manager who says no to a DOM won't be a line manager for long. There are plenty more where he came from.

Yes! You are totally right managers that have been at RM for a very long time want to go and cannot wait to get out, these managers are the better managers.

Royal Mail as a company has a reputation for having one of the worst management cultures and least competent managers within the whole of British industry.

The worst thing I've found is when a line manager makes a balls up, generates a grievance or issues a dodgy conduct penalty the next manager up who has to pick up the pieces doesn't exercise common sense and reverse the original poor decision. They'd rather waste time and resources upholding the original decision than admit one of theirs got it wrong.

I've been reliably informed that at the appeal stage against dismissal they prefer to let it go to a tribunal and waste money on legal fees than overturn the dismissal via the actual appeal.

Thing is these managers become one because they think that they know better,thing is they are usually the worst postal staff so they are then rubbish at the job,most do it for the extra cash and because they can't cope with being a postman/women anymore.

The two things that really annoy me is that they suddenly become power hungry fools,2,they have a sense of humor bypass and are so do this do that like little Hitler's.

We have one guy at the moment who thinks that his gods gift,he thinks he is above working on the floor and feels that he should be away up above working in the upper echalons shame really because he still has'nt been able to get his head around the job with us.

Over-paid, over-promoted office boys and clerks. They wouldn't be 'managers' anywhere else but Royal Mail and as the years go by, they get worse.
In 29 years, I only ever came across one good one. He had initiative, integrity and a genuine interest in the welfare of the staff. All the things you won't find among the present shower. Unfortunately he had a bad car crash and died some months after. Since 1982 I haven't come across anyone who could remotely be described as a manager in Royal Mail.

All I want to know is when are we going to get some decent managers, everyone goes on about how bad some of them are, but nothing seems to be done about them. Some of these managers if they lost their jobs tomorrow they would have trouble finding another job as a manager.
