as a postman for seven years i have been informed monday that i will be tested on my sorting skills and if i don't come up to scratch i will be given one more chance then dismissed.
can i refuse to be tested
i would like to bring up a few issues with my manager who's a wet fish about things that happen in out tw15 area office?
best regards

That is not the correct procedure. The Dom is supposed to test you. If you fail he is supposed to offer training and support before re testing you. He is supposed to give you time to get up to scratch before retesting you. He is not supposed to mention it within earshot of others.
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

Get your union rep if you have one it sound like your DOM/line manager is BULLYING YOU!.
"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."

don't fall for that old routine - get him to put that sack threat in writing , have a Mobile phone switched to video record or MP3 player on to record him if he threatens you again - get what he says Bluetoothed over or on the USB lead to the PC and back it to disc and you'll have that bully bang to rights + Log everything , who , what , where , when , whom and why .
There's been a few DUMs that have gone white as a sheet when thats been done .
Bang a grievance in on him to prove you've tried to go through the channels , RM don't go against their own but they can't sack you for putting a grievance in .

there's now way on earth you can be sacked. call his bluff ask why it's taken 7 yrs for them to find out your sorting isn't up to scratch. but rember there is no way you can be sacked.

no worries mate you will have to be realy poor to fail the test!! remember the test is for ONE minuite no more
dont worry about it after geo-route only 2 guys can pass the test in our office and its strange that in the last five years no new starters have done a sorting test.
We recently had one in our office and to be honest we just took it as a laugh. I think our best sorters were getting around 33-35 letters per minute on the IPS.
Nobody failed, although we didn't know what the required rate was.
I didn't have to do it as part timers don't do IPS in our DO anymore unless its a busy day and there is mail left after the rurals have done their 20 mins IPS that day.
WTL today, IPS tests soon, 31 letters per min is the required 'mark' and that should mean 500 letters per 20 minutes of sorting approx. !! CWU agreement too.
Also Prep test on the rm2000 frame, 25 letters per minute !
We will be tested twice in the next 4 weeks or so, the 1st time will be testing on the IPS/Prep and for the 2nd time that our standards are kept up !!
