my first day of sickness was monday just gone,im not intending to return till tuesday(bank holiday monday)if i ring up the manager on saturday saying im fit for work now! but obvisouly its sunday the followed by bank holiday monday,how many days will that count as being of sick?

obviously phone as late as possible if your duty finishes at 1 I'd phone at 12.45 and speak to a manager or leave a message on the sick answer phone if you've got one at your office stating it's saturday afternoon i'm now fit for work but as sunday and monday are non working days I'll be back tuesday.

Hi, just wondered if anyone could help me with some advice. I have been off sick since start of feb with various problems, some worse than others, but i have not been long diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis . Its in its early stages yet and I have started to have medication so hopefully things will get better, but i am worried about losing my job because of this and the other complicating problems i have. I have spoken to ATOS, and i keep my manager ( who has been great ) up to date every week, but at the moment i cannot see anything changing for a few more months yet. I realise that my wages will change soon, but what will happen if things get worse and i struggle on my round in the future? Will they get rid of me? Will i be posted in a different dept or section of RM? I am getting really down as i do enjoy where and who i work with. I have a great round.........I just want to get back to work.
If anyone can offer any info on what happens with longterm sick i would be very grateful. Thanks.

Let me tell you how this will pan out.....You will go back to work as your willing. you will get a stage 1 but hey it`s only a stage 1 and a warning what the heck..you`ll be back on your round struggling round,you will be making your condition worse...you will go off on the sick...you will then get Atos mithering you to return to work and your Dom inviting you in for a chat about your illness playing all nicey nicey....so you decide it`s better going back to work,they put you on rehab doing `light duties` for a few weeks and give you a stage 2.....then they tell you you can`t do rehab anymore as the budget won`t allow it...you go back on your delivery...you start having problems again...you think oh s**t I`m on a Stage 2 I can`t go off as I will be on a Stage 3....you end up depressed,pissed off and resentful,you have a collapse and wake up in hospital thinking what a twat I`ve been...welcome to how the system works.

You might get lucky and your DOM might find you a job indoors as you want to stay with your buddies in the office, but they are at a premium these days,unless you want to work in the Callers Office that is but I wouldn`t wish that on anybody!
More than likely they will try and offer you a job at the mailcentre,but there again it depends on vacancies...not much of a choice is it if you like the outdoor life as so many walk posties do..either work indoors and be the lino`s biatch throwing walks out or get transfered to a mailcentre!

I had a bad AOD just before xmas thanks to the RM shoes causing me to slip on someone's path. Of course they did the ERICA thing and tried to find out if they could blame me for in it anyway but they couldn't. It was recorded as an industrial accident too.

I was signed off for a fortnight but my DOM sweet talked me into working in another office on rehab duty doing some A Plus stuff. So I did, with my arm in a sling and barely able to stand up (mug).

When I was a little fitter, I agreed to go back to doing some of my old duty which then consisted of a delivery on a monday morning, then parcels and collections in the afternoons. I said I would give it a go with reasonable modification (i.e. a trolley) and I did. I found it was too much for me and I was in pain driving the van as it was the constant stop start and in and out. I agreed to carry on with the majority of my delivery on the monday and then go into the RLE until I was signed off by a physio (as stated by ATOS).

In the past month or two, I've been doing more or less all the delivery as my hip has improved but still unable to drive. However, I now have physio and things are improving. When I've been coming in in the afternoons on the tues onwards, I've been getting in and being told I'm out doing 1/3 of a round I've never done before. So, like I did before, I gave it a go so as not to be unreasonable and it proved too much for me.

I was then away from the office for a week covering someone else who is full time, I'm only part time, and then they told me I couldn't get paid the overtime for sitting at a desk because I was on rehab. So they sent me off knowing I'm only part time, to do a full time duty, and then tell me it's TOIL. The LM who deals with me at the moment is a complete arsehole and questions EVERYTHING I do. I asked him last Monday who was doing the bit of the round I can't do cos it would mean leaving the trolley outside for longer than is recommended and he tried to say I should be doing it. Then he brought me in to question the hours I'd done the week before when I'd already stated on the email what they were for, what time I started, what time I finished and how many hours it was (I was even completely honest and didn't claim for 8 hours if I wasn't there for 8 hours!!). Then he tells me it's TOIL.

Last tues I went into work aching from the delivery the day before and get told by my colleague in the RLE "you know you're doing 1/3 of 23T today don't you?" I said no, but thanks for telling me. He said "you'd better go sort it out with XXX cos it's part of your duty now". I went in to speak with XXX and told him I couldn't manage it because of my hip hurting from the day before. He said "well someone's got to do it". I pointed out again, that my hip was still causing me pain from the day before and that I couldn't manage it. He said "well, XX will have to do it". He then got his coat on and went home without telling XX he was going out on delivery instead of me.

I was then left to sort it out myself and I ended up walking out and going home sick after speaking to my area union rep. I'm now off with stress and on anti depressants. My manager seems to think that I'm just being awkward when in fact I have had a reduced quality of life and lost earnings since this fall which wasn't my fault, it was THEIR footwear that caused it. I ended up going in on the Wednesday with my sick note and having a chat with the AGM and we agreed that I would try to do 1/3 delivery on alternate days to give my hip a rest inbetween.

The points I raised with him are some of the above that I'm not just swinging the lead and that at no point has anyone ever sat down with me and a) told me that my duty has changed since I've been on rehab duty or b) can I manage the extra workload? I also said that XXX shouldn't have left it for me to tell XX that he should be going out on delivery, he should've told him himself. I also mentioned that I've been trying to get my DOM to give me an answer about some shift allowance I should've been paid last year but never received... AGM also stated that I wasn't on rehab duty, I was on an amended duty. He said he would get me rereferred to ATOS as requested on their report and I pointed out that I asked for that about 2 months ago.

They were then trying to get me to come back to work instead of going off sick but I've decided to stay off as advised by my Dr this time. I'm going to go back to a stage 1 though.

ATOS phoned me the next day to arrange a telephone consultation (cos that's a good way to assess things isn't it?! ) and they agreed with what I'd already agreed with my AGM. They then proceeded to read out the questions my LM had asked them and one of the things he said was that "she's doing less work". LESS WORK?! So, is he basically saying then that our indoor colleagues do less work than everyone else and in which case, why not give them some more work to do?! He also said, there's no indoor work for her to do. There is, it would just mean kicking the manager's relatives out the office which isn't going to happen.

-firstly, have you informed D.W.P about this accident at work? This is a must, and could mean more money for you if you have to have more time of because of this injury.and of course, welcome to the world of Atos!!!
anyway, fight your corner,and get in touch with Atos yourself, and explain fully to them about the discrepencies in your managers report concerning the amount of work you do,and make it clear the amount of work you are doing is making your problem worse.Make it clear to the Managment your accident was a result of them supplying you with footwear that was
known to cause just these types of accidents,and you are holding the company responsible!
And, if you can afford it, get a Medical expert to explain the long term effects of your type of injury, (and there will be some) if I have learned anything over the years in this job, it is to bully the bully bosses, and if you have right on your side,
they will back down.
