All this talk of falling volumes,wich most Delivery staff disagree with but mail center staff seem to agree with,I am sure the difference is DSA, other than mail sort,I would say most of our mail is DSA.
I do not understand the process of how dsa comes into our system at the end but sure the only way RM can get away with falling mail volumes calling is some thing todo with dsa.

I do not wish to get into a slanging match with mail center staff as must be a difficult time for them with many Mail centers closing shortly ,but I really belive Mail Center staff dont see the whole picture.

Our local mail center is closing and staff will have to travel a long distance to get to new one , if they still have a job in fact,In our office we recently had a couple of guys come down for a few weeks from Mailcenter with a veiw of transfering to our office,been at MC for some years,they had heard how quiet deliverys were do to falling mail volumes and how early we finnish.
Poor things did they get a shock when they got to our office ,they could not get back to MC quick enough,said how hard we had to work all the time on deliverys to finnish on time or to even make a few minutes was stupid.They did not have to work anywhere near as hard.

Some Where only part truths are being told at best ,downright lies at worst.
Courier says falling volumes,talk to almost any guy in our office they will tell you how busy we are ,not just weeight of bags but sheer volume of mail ,
Courier says substantial decline in Specials and Recorderd.Speaking to a guy who works in our locker he says the overall amout in our office is increasing not decreasing,I was arguing with him that he must be wrong ,as I read it in the Courier so it must be true!!

What you have to bare in mind is that we are paid to work longer these days (my office anyway) as we have the 6th week off.Walks are longer to reflect that. Weds Thurs Fris we used to be paid till 1330 nowadays its 1500. Saturdays we only used to be paid till 1030 and often finished around 9.00. Nowadays we are paid till 13.30 and usually finish around 1230. In reality the longer walks make it feel like we are working harder because we finish later when in reality we are still making a similar amount of time out of the job and taking a rest week Personally i think the longer duties are to physically hard. Lots of us are carrying injuries from wear and tear. We just plod on waiting for our next rest week! For older guys deliveries its a hard job these days.

damn lies and statistics !! i work in Distribution and collections is probably the easiest job in RM that i have done. my mate in the MC works on a LSM and he tells me he does not put as much mail through as he used to and having read alot that Mr Tmn has said about the subject maybe thats the case. however, you guys on deliveries are at the sharp end and having also done deliveries i found it to be very hard work and coming from a military background i feel i am qualified to say that. i think it is the intensification of the work that you are asked to do in deliveries these days and this has a big bearing on how you feel about the job. this intensification includes bigger walks , heavier mail and more packets etc which is all expected to be done in less time. just a thought !!
