Wednesday evening balancing

nine times out of ten we work past 6.20 pm and when we ask for it back on flexi or be paid, we get told no. Yet the manager decides to come in half an hour before her duty starts and gives herself half an hour flexi, which we think in our office is not fair. Are we entitled to to claim the extra time back because we are working in our own time. This is becoming to be a real issue in our ofice as the manager makes sure every thing she does over her contract hours she claims back.

Good grief! What a farckin debacle. A couple of questions...
Are you still serving after 5.30 on wednesdays?
If not, then how are you staying over 6.20? Literally, a few reports and stamp and cash takes 30 mins tops. And that's on a slow TP!

You must all insist that you all claim it back through time owing or overtime. Stick together on it, union and non-members.
If the manager refuses take it to your area union rep.

It wouldn't hurt to mention it to your managers manager, if you know what i mean, BDM or whatever they are called now.

They are going through a spell of culling managers at the mo, (in my area anyway), and even a little bit of aggro like this is enough rope if you know what I mean...

This happens a lot in my office....not so often on a weds as Billy says balancing is a piece of p*** now, but most other days we are serving well past half five. Must say my manager is pretty cool about it, and actually encourages us to log the time ...and then either claim it back as OT or banked time. They say we need to document the late nights to show whoever composes the duties we need more cover at the end of the evening.
One question.....how does your manager get in the office in the morning....arnt there supposed to be 2 key holders to do a security check?...certainly no one should have all the keys!

we are made to do a full balance every week, once we have stopped serving which is normally about 5.45 we have to count all stock in drawer and if somebody has not balanced and you have and you are down to take keys you cannot go until they are done. When she comes in early she knows who to ask to come in early with her always the same person. We have had argument or should I say I have, in front of her cam as well she just makes out its levels itself out when we are late, which I cant remember the last time one of us was late. I have spoken to our area cam about her and he says he is dealing with issues surrounding her but there is no change in her attitude towards us.

Is this not a simple matter of what do you actually get paid for? In my view it's quite simple: you are contracted for a certain number of hours per week, so that is what you should do. In other words at your scheduled finishing time you should leave. If you have been unable to balance the till, you secure it, Attach to DEF, and Log Off. The keys should be then handed to the manager. Their problem. HOWEVER, you need to be ‘whiter than white’, tea breaks smack on 15 minutes, lunch 30, or whatever you have in your office, always arrive on time, five minutes early if possible, and above all in these rather odd days, ‘Sales Conversations’ to the letter.

In a perfect world of course this would not be necessary, there would be ‘give and take’ ‘in the spirit’ of the BOSA/COSA, but you seem to describe an intransigent type, with little brain. I would suggest that this is something everyone in the office needs to do, sticking your head above the parapet on your own is not, I think, to be recommended. If the rest of your colleagues are not prepared to stand together then you will have to put up with it.

Also, claire, as you have spoken to the cam, follow the advice above, give it 2 weeks. If the CAM has not done anything or at the very least fed back to you what is going to be done then inform area rep, as they have a better tendency to move this sort of thing along with CAM's, (in my experience anyway).

Yep. And it is called the MUP club! Of which about half a dozen or so managers in my area are on...

How boring. In my head I had them summoned to a Workshop entitled ‘Sales Modelling in Playdoh for the Under Fives’, at the Management College Rugby, thence to be herded in to a room, and beaten to death by some jack-booted, blood-crazed, Senior Sales Managers…
