hospital appiontment

Post by ldsposti »

hi can anyone help me out a member has a hospital appiontment he is coming in to do part of his duty and another guy is doing the rest for him, problem is our manager said it will go down on his record as a sick absence but will not be used against him should he in the future trigger a stage, can they do this what about the magic word being flexible ?

It should be shown as special paid leave for medical appointment, it will be in his record as all absences are for whatever reason but should be discounted for any disciplinary/RTU reasons.

Is the other guy getting OT for doing part of the round or is he doing it for nothing to help out? If it is OT then I would imagine it went on the sick record but if it is to help out and not OT then it shouldn't.
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

That is in fact immaterial, how the DOM choses to cover the element not done by the chap who has the appointment is his problem - he can either pay soomeone overtime or nominate a replacement on ordinary time - it doesn't affect the special leave element.

Tell this manager that your member will be willing to make there hours up on there rest day, there is your flexiblity.
Any business don't have to pay staff for hospital appointments unless an accident on duty had occured or extreme family traggic circumstances has unfortunally happened, this would then constitute as working hours due to the Non Blameworthy accident which you will have to argue the toss about but you will be right or the family friendly procedure royal mail has adopted because they don't want themselves looking like complete arshoes.

I have the same problem. My hospital appointments i have been told will be unpaid special leave in the future even though it's to do with my ears which are covered by DDA???? I have to have check ups for the rest of my life!!!!! :hmmmm But the best bit is how can you apply for special leave when its not the whole day????? Over to you !!!!! :hmmmm

Special leave isn't counted against entitlement and may be paid or unpaid, BUT , a reasonable Manager should not detract from anything that enhances the well being of a member of his staff and should authorise paid absence.

Yes but apparently RM have a licence to cull them for scientific research. But actually they just end up on the tables at Japanese restaurants.
