leaving the job on medical grounds

hello all. does anyone know the criteria for maybe being able to leave the job for medical reasons.
after having a serious car accident i am in a position where although i can do the job i'm a lot slower than i used to be and am in pain virtually everyday while doing the job.
any advice greatly received,thankyou

Hi, Stupidboy, You yourself can.t opt to leave on medical grounds.Firstly, you'd have to be signed of as unfit for
work,(and normally you'd be looking at a nine month period of ill-health) then you would have to be referred to the
wonderful ATOS--depending on how bad you are, they would still try and keep you working,in one way or another.
It is a long drawn out process.Have you put your name down for E.V.R.?

I`m finding it hard to get the push myself.
The facts are you have to be off sick for a long time before they will even consider you for ill health retirement ,and then when they do say you can be retired they won`t give you the better option of an immediate pension unless your literally at deaths door,they will however offer eventually you ill health with a lump sum,which sounds good but doesn`t even come upto a years full pay.

Even if you are on a re-hab a long time till it gets to the point they can no longer fund to keep you on re-hab due to financial reason etc etc. Normally you would need be on re-hab for some months, around 4-5 months. I was told they could no longer continue to keep me on re-hab and no other suitable jobs in R Mail .

there's a few options , you could get a GP to sign you off but you'd be harassed to death by the RM & dontgiveATOS ; as you've got this playground mentality of " they're all out for as much as possible for as little as possible .

RM would make IHR as difficult as possible , it's cheaper to sack someone and get people through the door that way but RM often cock it up and end up in Industrial Tribunals .

See the Union Branch Secretary , there's more than one way of skinning a cat .

The final option would be to resign , but you'd have to word the resignation letter very carefully so it can't be misconstrued i.e. "In the circumstances , I therefore have no other option" etc .

RM apparently don't like people telling tales outside the PO about what they are really like as opposed to the RM in wonderland image they would have everybody believe in The Courier .

A good doctor might back you up , the social would accept that you resigned on a jumped before you were pushed basis . They also can work on a worst day basis for Incapacity Benefit .

However their staff are under just as much pressure as RM management , apparently things can be just as regimented , autocratic and farcical with common sense going out of the window .
