does anybody know what oficial prep rate is on a walk was told last week by our dim its 25 items a minute when i quizzed this was told of a new computer programme that can count your mail to within 50 items so they can calculate how long it should take to prep a walk for example 2000 items should take 150 mins upto and including bagging up

They want 17 letter per minute in my office (including bagging up etc.) considering it takes about 30 minutes to do redirections, do deads, and bundle up there is no chance of even the fastest person making that speed.

told last week the mail i had according to a sheet of paper she produced should take 55 mins to prep(BEEN ON DELIVERY SIDE 23 YEARS) ,WHEN I HAD GOT READY FOR DELIVERY TOOK INSPECTOR WITH ME AND WEIGHED MY BAGS ---65.6.KILOS AROUND 140 POUNDS OR 10 STONES-SAID PUT THAT IN YOUR COMPUTER,NO RESPONSE.

The 25/minute is for a 1 minute test only, I think you'll find that for the whole thing from start to bagged is 11/minute, we've jusst been Georouted and we've had 2 hours prep time, hope this helps.

If they want 25 items per minute, tell them to fetch it, dead it, redirect it, bundle it and get the missorts done.....its usually works out around 10 items a minute when you leave the office.

yep 10 items a minutes is what we go by in our area

I recently had a prep test and did 14.5 a minute, including redirections but not bagging up or kill offs, so that would probably bring it down to about 12.5 a minute. So I would say 11 should be fair as I am 1 of the quicker ones in the office. Our time line is

6.00 - 6.30 Prep
6.30 - 7.45 Ips
7.45 - 9.00 Prep
9.00 - 9.15 Miss sorts
9.15 - 9.20 Weigh Bags
9.20 - 10.00 Break
10.00 - 14.00 Delivery (Including getting there and back)

This gives us 105 minutes at frame which means we can handle about 1150 items. On a monday, wednesday, thursday and friday I always have more than this.

The way prep time is measured by the managers is by using the unagreed method called IWT (Indoor Workload Tool). This calculates the hourage for the office and how much the DOM should be spending on IPS/ Prep and delivery work. This is of course if the figure put in the beginning is correct. Some managers are questioning this figure but of course DOM's won't wanna question this themselves as 8/10 it'll show the figure is UP on what they are inputting and this would mean less £££ for their budgets.
This software (Excel actually I think) works out what each walk has and then says on average how long each walk should take to prep. The figure it gives though should take into account prep/flats and packets. Tying up and killing off the dead letters and then come up with an average per minute. The 25/11/13 per minute you people talk about is I believe in a minute NOT constant. If you read the rules in throwing in your job it actually states that, for the RM2000 frame you should throw in your large flats first and then your mail and then your hds items. This is available on the RM Intranet site.

Aye--and what about tying up time for left handed folks?
I am fast at prepping up.Cough, cough, but being a leftie pulling out with the wrong hand as it were,slows me down, would this be covered under D.D.A? I often feel Manageres think i am slowing down deliberatly at that point .

Has your frame been adapted for a left handed user stokesy - one of our guys, who was left handed, suffered chronic pain and went off sick repeatedly and it was recommended that he should have a left handed frame, which RM didn't institute and he had to eventually have time off again and when taken on a 3rd stage ripped the sh*t out of them because he had the letter stating he should have had his frame adapted.
