In need of some advice guys. A couple of months back now, all the walks were changed to 4 hour deliveries. every1 picked their walk etc, and the person that picked the walk I am on just bow is on special leave for a while but still came in to pick what walk they wanted. so, im a reserve, and my managers basically told me, you`ll be on this walk for the forseeable future. this walk, is by far the longest one in the office (even though there all meant to be 4 hours). Now heres the thing, my manager seems to think that theres absolutely nothing wrong and that the walk is perfectly fine and should get it done in 4 hours easily. everytime I tell him I will be over my time or whatever I get told that I should manage to get it out and theres no problem. Also this walk requires I take all packets, even the big ones in the yorkies, because its a driving duty, Although the backshift take them because he actually realises that it definately cant be done with the bigger packets, and the fact I take my car and the other guy takes the van. now I know people will say dont use my car etc, but the way the managers going on at me, its quicker than both of us in the van. last week was the first time we actually used 2 men in a van and it was a disaster. out till half past 4, and wont get the overtime because the manager said it should be done in time. ive only been here 6 months, and basically my manager has been getting at me because its my first 6 months and says at the end of the 6 months depending on how he rates me ill be kept on because its a probation period. now my 6 months are up, and im being kept on, im thinking of basically telling him im working till my time every single day, until he sorts the walk and takes some off it. any advice on how to handle this would be appreciated.also ive just joined the union aswell, would a rep be able to help? thanks

well first thing, leave your car and tell them if its a 'driving' duty then you need an RM van or the packets stay
so the park & loop as they require.if you tell them you wont make it and you both do it and cant manage then bring it back

If the manager insists that the duty is OK, ask to be trained by the workplace coach (and make sure it's the whole duty not just a small portion) and make sure you follow all RMs rules (seatbelt on everytime, all the van checks, work out of the back of the van etc.). Plus, get in touch with your rep. about your DOMs unpaid OT to make sure you get it.

:chuckle :chuckle :chuckle A DOM going out on a delivery :chuckle :chuckle ours would need a full paramedic unit to follow him around, I don't know what would get him first, the shock, the walking or the fact that you can't drink coffee for hours :nervous :nervous

You could try buying a donkey and using it on your walk. :hmmmm On reflection I think you might get prosecuted by the RSPCA or some other animal welfare society

Don't know if your office has a union rep , but if so , take him in to see the manager on tuesday about the unpaid o/t. As for the size of the walk , there's not a lot you can do about that if your office has capitulated and accepted anything over 3.5 hr dels. I understand its hard when you're a new recruit and trying to safeguard your future prospects (such as they are in RM!) but you can still insist on finishing on your time regardless of what your manager says. Is there no-one else in the office who works to their time? it might be an idea to take them in with you when you inform this manager as no doubt he will try and bully and intimidate you into completing your walk for f*ck all.

could also try when dealing with managers ie. asking how they want to manage the situation if you are unable or willing to work O/T (their problem) or offering to be tested with the manager coming out with you. to take notes in a note book as an implied threat ( let them see you take the notes when discussing it with them) always handy to keep a record.

Another good idea is to record the conversation if you have to discuss anything with your DIM in his office, and there is no rep around who will act as witness to what was said.

Most reasonably modern mobile phones will have a voice recorder, use it and save the file on your phone, and name it with date/time etc.

Well if you look on the CWU website there has been an LTB dated 1st May about park and loop/van sharing - a bit late in the day as we have been on it since October last year - but it covers many of the points you raise in the delivery span, type of vehicle etc.

What beggars belief is that this missive wasn't put out last year - not only have they bolted 2 duties together, they bolted 2 together, elements of the previous bulk duties, specials and large as well as small packets - Oh RM certainly sold a pup there right enough - and the delivery span went from 3.5 hrs to 4.25 hours - great negotiating there boys.

in our office its 2x3.5 deliveries plus (supposedly) 30 minutes to do the packets etc of the old van duty
the funny bit is their timings allocate 5 minutes ot get to my delivery and 0 to get back :Applause
takes at least 20 minutes each way, well done eh
