My Rep and I drafted a note about the 30 minutes flexibility and gave it to the staff so that they werent confused.
Our Manager tried to invoke the 30 minute flexibility a couple of weeks ago but it wasnt the way it was worded in phase 3 of the pay and modernisation agreement so this helped whenever the manager tried to invoke it.
I have pasted the proper version below for anyone who wants to use it.
30 minutes flexibility
The 30 minutes flexibility is a voluntary option. Royal Mail can use the 30 minutes flexibility agreement for unforeseen problems. These problems could be a large mail volume from Matalan, DFS etc that was not recorded by the mail centre and therefore no notification was sent to the D.O. to make the managers aware of this mailing. It could be a van breaking down on its way to our office. It is NOT an option that managers can use to make staff extend by 30 minutes on a normal, busy Thursday or Friday without claiming overtime. They also cannot use a quiet Tuesday as the payback for us working flexibly on a Thursday or Friday. They cannot state on the Monday that they are invoking the flexibility agreement this week and using Tuesday as the 30 minutes they are giving us unless they have some paranormal gift that can see the van breakdown on Friday. But even if they could see it then it wouldn’t be unforeseen.
If they decide to ASK, not tell staff to work 30 minutes over on any given day they must return those 30 minutes the same week and that is negotiable with each member of staff. One might want Saturday to get the 30 minutes back, someone else might want Friday. Royal Mail don’t have to agree with the day you want it back in which case you can say no thank you to working the extra 30 minutes.
Please do not feel pressurised into accepting the 30 minutes. It is your choice regardless of how management wish to try and implement it. As long as you remember that the 30 minutes are for unforeseen problems, that you have to get it back during the same week and that it is entirely voluntary
