30 minutes flexibility agreement

Post by Broxi51 »

I cannot find much about this on the site and where I have there seems to be some confusion.
My Rep and I drafted a note about the 30 minutes flexibility and gave it to the staff so that they werent confused.
Our Manager tried to invoke the 30 minute flexibility a couple of weeks ago but it wasnt the way it was worded in phase 3 of the pay and modernisation agreement so this helped whenever the manager tried to invoke it.
I have pasted the proper version below for anyone who wants to use it. :Very Happy

30 minutes flexibility

The 30 minutes flexibility is a voluntary option. Royal Mail can use the 30 minutes flexibility agreement for unforeseen problems. These problems could be a large mail volume from Matalan, DFS etc that was not recorded by the mail centre and therefore no notification was sent to the D.O. to make the managers aware of this mailing. It could be a van breaking down on its way to our office. It is NOT an option that managers can use to make staff extend by 30 minutes on a normal, busy Thursday or Friday without claiming overtime. They also cannot use a quiet Tuesday as the payback for us working flexibly on a Thursday or Friday. They cannot state on the Monday that they are invoking the flexibility agreement this week and using Tuesday as the 30 minutes they are giving us unless they have some paranormal gift that can see the van breakdown on Friday. But even if they could see it then it wouldn’t be unforeseen.
If they decide to ASK, not tell staff to work 30 minutes over on any given day they must return those 30 minutes the same week and that is negotiable with each member of staff. One might want Saturday to get the 30 minutes back, someone else might want Friday. Royal Mail don’t have to agree with the day you want it back in which case you can say no thank you to working the extra 30 minutes.

Please do not feel pressurised into accepting the 30 minutes. It is your choice regardless of how management wish to try and implement it. As long as you remember that the 30 minutes are for unforeseen problems, that you have to get it back during the same week and that it is entirely voluntary

The manager was trying to tell us on a friday when it was busy that we had to work 30 minutes free because we had finished early on the tuesday. We argued with him about it but he was adamant so we looked at the agreement and drafted it from that. Now if he tries, the staff have something to refer to and say no thanks :Very Happy

Don't you just love that work flexibility. How flexible do RM want us to be. I cut off on about a third of my duties each month, that means i'm being flexible for the other two thirds and doing th ot when required to finish. What do i get for showing this level of flexibility? My start time gets put back from 9 to 9:45 from next week so I now finish at 14:45 15mins before my kids come out of school. You see where i'm going here, now It is likely that i will cut off more as my finish time 3 days a week is set in stone as i have the kids to pick up, the other 2 days is a sat and mon so they won't be excessive anyway most of the time. You got to love the way forward! :arrrghhh

Regarding the "magical word " Flexibility...When this was introduced we were told in the PR postcode area managers must give 24 hours if they want you to be flexible...Most of us have kids ? and have a life outside RM .So if your cut off time is 1430,which it is in our office(with meal break) and your on the school run 1500 and they want you to be flexible by 30 mins ...Who's pick'n the kids up ? thats what i tell them.Your Dom knows what mail is coming into their office ,wether its a bulk posting or whatever..Yet they seen to bring in early sorters or extra night man (if you still have them) But they do not tell you ..Why. Last week We had all the election cards to prep and deliver ,they were a B'@~+rd to throw off..But they expect!!! Next week we are going to deliver all the info on Swine Flu .We've not been told..i saw it on the news.We are a business that deals with Communication to millions. But there is very little with management and the guy on the street
