1) A roomful - they have to hold a meeting to discuss all the ramifications of the change.
2) None, they like to keep employees in the dark.
3) "This topic was resumed from last week's discussion, but is incomplete pending resolution of some action items. It will be continued next week. Meanwhile ..."
4) "We've formed a task-force to study the problem of why light bulbs burn out, and to figure out what, exactly, we as supervisors can do to make the bulbs work smarter, not harder."

If he considers it to be a H&S issue - after consultation with the H&S Manager, and the budget allows, he will ask
ROMEC for a site visit to assess the situation and submit an estimate for the work to be done, which will then
have to be forwarded to the Area Manager for a decision.
And I don't care if it is causing you eye-strain, get on with your work."

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I can't change the light bulb until i ask the DOM who asks the area manager who asks the sector manager who asks the regional manager who asks someone else who asks Adam. If Adam says no management is right and you are wrong and you will be conducted for questioning light bulbs in the office.

The true answer to the question is that no-one really knows.
They'll all studiously ignore the fact that it's out, and hope the following shift might report it, so saving themselves the time and effort in making the decision to actually make that call.
