Postmen taking large parcels

Whats the rules concerning this? One of our drivers is a right twat about taking parcels he deems will fit in pouches.

What he doesnt understand is if we dont deliver the parcel its still in our bags at the next pouch drop and the next until the end.

Trying to get the hingehead manager to understand this is impossible.

Plus the same driver is nearly always late dropping off 2nd bags, yet same hingehead refuses to tell him to get his finger out.

There should be a yellow template which decides whether something is too large to fit in the bag. TBH I think even that's a little on the large side but hey, that's the template. I also believe it shouldn't be any heavier than 1.25kg either.

Only thing I can suggest is showing your manager the size of the item, the stuff already in your bags and pointing out what you've said about not being able to carry it all back with you. If they won't sign it off for the driver to take for you then say you'll have to split your bag to ensure you can fit everything in which means dead walking and you may be unable to complete within your time.

i can and do see both sides of the argument as i do a walk and packets for 2 rounds later and a collection [hybrid duty]
there is a template where by if it fits through you are supposed to take it, but like you say if they are not in then it's a right s**t! if you have two large ones that you cannot get rid of then your bags full and that's without the mail, we don't use our template

it's all about working together in my opinion, whilst i disagree with the other walk guy sometimes most of the time he is ok, he will take the larger items that are further away or up flights of stairs and i don't mind him throwing smaller ones out that are more accessible to get to, he has started this habit though of throwing small items out with larger items and saying your going there anyway, well ye i know but so are you with the f***ing mail! and also the same thing with recordeds which is a bit naughty as all it is doing is saving him time and putting it on me

well there i was saying we get along! well we do, but your situation looks as though it won't improve if the numpty manager won't do anything about it

have you tried having a word with him but i guess from your description of him he wouldn't listen

like a lot of things in RM only when you do the job do you see it in another light, has he done a delivery or you a driving duty

have a couple in my office that when they are on a walk they try and throw everything out, then when they are on the packet duty moan like f**k about what someone else has thrown out, did point this out to them and they got no sympathy from me

Forgot to mention, I do both-delivery and parcels. I know that if I find a packet in my parcels it's either because they genuinely can't fit it in or they're taking the piss depending on who's on the duties. When they're taking the piss I throw it back out.

Work with your driver if he will not take it can he take it back for you by leaveing it at the p/o or drop box or meeting him/her?. good luck all.

If you can't get an answer at the door leave the packets at the next pouch box then go back to the office and tell the manager that's where they are. It's then upto him to get them back, that's what happens in our office.

I remember when i was working at my old office, one of the reserves from our place got sent over to an office a few miles away. He was happy enough, got helped with prep etc as obviously he didnt know the frame.

Then it all went Pete Tong - he left some packets for the drivers which were too big for pouch... a while later as he was delivering in an area he had never seen before, driver pulls up by him, and throws all the packets he had left, on the pavement by his feet !!!!! Some real ar$eholes in some offices ,,,,

The driver in our office throws them back on the frames, his excuse, nobody asked him if he would take them, nobody feckin see's him to ask him as they are all out on delivery

I think I'm pretty fair with the guys on my bus, I very rarely throw stuff back at them. What p's me off is when I pass the packet list down the aisle to see if there are any double ups and I get given small(very small) packets that can quite clearly fit through the letterbox, It wastes my time as I'm trying to hunt round for them in the back of the van, one guy on my bus does it all the time , I'm just too nice for my own good

I am always willing to take what I class as "dodgy" packets if someone tells me they really can't fit them in a bag but some really make me feel like i've been bent over and taken advantage of when I drop there pouches off and they nearly blow out of my hand in the breeze! And of course when I'm asked to take something because they are really busy mail wise I never get them coming to me on quiet tuesday etc. when I'm snowed under with specials asking if I have any larger packets etc. to bulk their bags out! and don't get me started on the bulk mail drops - yea 5 letters for a shop they are walking past is really bulk. With the driving duties being cut in our office the DOM has actually told us to take any in his words "piss take packets" to him and he'll make sure they are taken by the walking man and have them in for a chat about wilful delay because he has admitted we will be upto our time or over most days without the extra "I don't want to take it becuase I will have to knock/get a signature/take to PO if there out" packets!

My driver has a York for the bigger stuff. Any I can't manage I put in the York. I have a look at whats in it, and if I have any borderline (they wont go through letterbox) for the same place, I chuck it in. If I have any recorded's for the same place, I chuck it in. I can't see the customer being happy about being knocked for a packet by the driver, then by me ten minutes later to sign for something.
