Ah, that's what they meant when they said Leighton was a few clowns short of a circus. By that reckoning there must be at least half a dozen good managers out there.
In answer to the question, No. Got on alright with most of them, but I'd never describe them as good or competent,

Most of our mangers at Ipswich are ok. not good but ok.

None of the managers I've had would I trust to run a bath nevermind an office it's either bewilderment, bullying or just following the higher ups orders to the letter but not managerment.

i have found their increasing lack of ability to make a decision without being told what the answer is by the DOM, incredulous.
How much sh*t spoon fed to them by the DOM a manager will eat in the vague hope of getting the DOM off their back amazes me.

Have you noticed that the minority of good Managers, tend to get a lot of hassle from above. Yet the crap ones, tend to be left alone?

I just can't understand the mentality of that attitude. They seem to want sheep, rather than shephards.

they used to call it animal house management - clones and corruption , you can also get concentration camp management as well , i.e. as long as it's someone else in trouble , not me ; even the CBI deemed it to be inefficient , very backward . The British Disease p*** poor middle management .

As 98% of so-called managers were originally posties, isn't the real issue here the traditional "knocking" of anyone seen to be attempting to climb out of the postie comfort zone?

Or maybe the DO gene pool is just too scarcely populated with those of sufficient nous to make any sort of manager?

Doesn't say much for RM staff when the most taxing decision most have to make is whether it's tea time yet or not.

Also why do you see people commenting on bad managers as knocking anyone who wishes to progress, there are bad managers there are bad posties its a fact of life.

There are also good managers one of which I have praised on here on a regular basis so will not do so again, but she is firm and fair and you know that if you have a problem she will do her best to sort it out.

We are in a different era now.

Managers are having to operate in a vastly diffrent enviroment, WF,SDD, P+M all since 2000

The DOM when I started in 91 was a good manager but has long since retired and retired before all of the above started.

'Course that's true, but all I seem to hear is posties moaning about thier manager, when that same manager was their mate three months before.
Same obviously aren't cut out to be managers, but that can't be so universal; some must hack it as junior ML5s or 4s, surely?

None of them are managers!!! Try DO AS YOU ARE TOLD BOYS! Takes a brave one to do otherwise! In all of my 8 years of doing postie the only one i had no bother with was the first manager when i started.
