driving duties

Our office had driving duties like many others, but we have noticed recently that some people are given small vans to use to convey themselves and their delivery to their route.

some are heavy town deliverys, others are new builds, with no pouch boxes.

Come the imminant re-sign, will non drivers be barred from these duties, simply because they have no pouch boxes?
A trolley would be hopeless .

Also, why are these people are not given driving money.

The only reason i think they are "van duties" is that the previous postman took all the mail out in his car, and now the lad who was on it, with some 25 years experience, does not drive, so has been given the heave ho.

That is the one thing that baffles me in our office. Way forward scrapped driving allowance for new entrants and also any walker who wanted to go driving,and also in certain ways when you move duties.

Nobody in my office gets a driving allowance for a small van and they now only pay an allowance for the larger of the convey vans(ones with 2 rows of seats in the back).

If they can't drive I guess they will be, on the point of trolleys we were told today that golf trolleys are not to be used from September.

I think you'll find that your responseable for your van, paid an allowance or not.
Training to carry out the daily checks should have been done on your changeover. You start that van up with no oil in it, and i'm sure they're going to be blaming you .....

I do driving but don't receive an allowance, anyone who has come off driving duties should not be recieving the driving allowance (unless the duty was removed by management and the right where protected), if the duty becomes a driving duty then only people who can drive for RM will be able to sign for that duty but under the MTSF the non driver will get a duty to suit and lastly, I change wheels but only punctures on the small vans (I wouldn't try the bigger van wheels ).

More importantly: If there's anything wrong with your tyres, lights, brakes (e.g. brake fluid). And you have an accident, you'll be in trouble not just with your Manager. But the Police, and probably the 3rd Party's (if any) Insurance.

Also, it's 3 points on your License, for each bald tyre, and/or blown bulb. 4 bald tyres/blown bulbs = Driving Ban! Think about it.

has the duty changed to a driving duty or is the person on it just chancing their arm and asking.
If the duty has changed to a driving duty then those without the required licence will not be permitted to sign for it as per TWF agreement, as techniclally it has a skill they don't posess.

its only a "drivin" duty because royal mail have not put any pouch boxes on the delivery and previous pstmen used their cars to get round it

now, all of a sudden, its a van duty!

Why?

I would suspect that from a RM viewpoint, not enough mail can be transported in them, therefore don't be overly surprised when you see a sudden influx of HCT's.
