Cars on delivery.

Ok,i've lost count the amount of times some of my colleagues have said"..well if we didn't use our Cars..",
and then drove off to their walk.
There's no doubt that the use of Cars has seriously screwed us up,for over 10 years i've heard the above statement
said time and time again.
And in my experience nothing has been done about it,either by Management(like they would anyway)or the Union.

Not so long ago last year or so,there was even an agreement between the Union and the business that gave permission
for Managers to check over our Cars,for the relevant documents and to see if they were road worthy.

Just think of what situation we would be in now if nobody used them.
But i guess you know how it would be ,and so does the business,which always amazes me with what they try to get away with,with us.

I guess we're just suckers for it.

The Union now seem to be actively against the use of Cars on deliveries again.

I'm afraid to say,i voted 'Yes-all the time'
The reason being it does help you finish earlier,but it would be a lot harder if i didn't use me car.
I know it's wrong,and i see your point mate,and yes we've all talked about it before in our office.
Not using them would change things,but it would have to be everyone in the office,
which i know aint going to happen.
If i was forced to not use my car,then so be it,everyone would be in the same boat and yes we would probably get
more duties in,less work ect.
But yes,to a certain extent you're right,we are suckers for it.

Fortunatly i cant drive, and even when i pass my test i'm not telling my manager as using cars on walks is almost expected in some offices

I use my car,for my own benifit,the drivers are useless and i'd be waiting round for agesnadwe only have around 4 walks with drop point in our office.
It saves me time so i'm not to fussed.although when i finish abefore my time like i do every day and get pulled up about it i'm quick to mention i've used my car-came in early-andworked my break.

even though travel passes are provided,busses never turn up on time and im startin delivery about an hour after fellow car users, managers have said so mant times they will run us out with the vans but it never happens x

Then you would drive out,the work would be done easier and no probs would be reported.
At the moment you have problems,if they sort it out then the job would be a bit easier anyway.
And it would save jobs,and walks would not be so big.
And,and,and............................

Things could be changing. The union have written to the government pointing out that Royal Mail ( recieving awards for being a green business ) allow anywhere between 20,000 to 30,000 cars on delivery on a daily basis. This means a humungous amount of carbon would be prevented from being pumped into the atmosphere if all those bums were on the seats provided for them. ( in theory ) Climate change is the big political buzz for now and the forseeable future so who knows?

I used to always use my car on walking deliveries because I regularly did overtime.When we returned to work after a walkout we were banned from using our cars by management,therefore it does not prove worthwhile to do overtime now.By now using our van drivers to covey us and our numerous bags on delivery,we are justifying the need for more vacancies/budgeted hours in our office.So well done Royal Mail and thanks for helping more people into work.

I work in the same office as Javid (the last poster) and I would also like to thank the area management team for banning car use. It not only helps to justify jobs in the office it has also helped to boost a feeling of togetherness amongest the staff (laughs and conversation on the vans) wich because of single delivery and car use has been missing in recent times. Once again a big thank you.

Good on ya and your area management.
I just wish others would follow suit.
What did your Dom and the rest of the lads think of it though,was there trouble,moans and groans and the like?

There were no moans and groans from us posties because we had no choice other than go out on the vans and do the job properly and finish at 1300 which is what we are paid to do anyway.
On the other hand I don't think management are too happy-the DOM got shifted,and dozens of extra managers have been drafted in to cover the extra workload.They use a phrase about a budget going through a roof.

Yes Javid's right. No moans from the posties but the managers who were draffted in weren't very happy. If all offices followed suit Royal Mail would find it harder to make job cuts. Come on folks help to save YOUR jobs.

Easier said then done,its a fact weve done ourselves no favours over the years and in a way have contributed to the s**t we are in(myself included).

I TOTALLY AGREE THAT YOU SHOULD GO OUT WITH THE VAN DRIVER
IF THEY CHECK THAT ONLY ONE OR TWO ARE USING THE VANS THEY WILL CUT
JOBS OR INCREASE DELIVERIES ON THE VAN DRIVER, THEN WHAT HAPPENS WHEN
YOU ARE OFF AND THE POSTIE THAT COVERS YOUR WALK HASNT A CAR TO TAKE
THEMSELVES OUT????
I KNOW THAT WE ALL WANT TO FINISH EARLY, BUT DONT MESS IT UP FOR OTHERS!!
SAVE JOBS NOT TIME.
