MANAGER PREPING WALKS
What is the position regarding manager prepping in walks. The problem is our office has been cut to the bone and now there is not enough people to prep in all the walks in time so we have the PHG and manager prepping, surely the union should be doing something about this?

Re: MANAGER PREPING WALKS
Managers should not be doing any posties job ie sorting, preping etc. The union should be saying something as they are doing OUR work.

Re: MANAGER PREPING WALKS
Same thing happens in my office but the thing is that the managers are crap at prepping
the either throw it in everwhere just to get it done or they take about 4 hours to prep a duty (and they threatened me with the conduct code for taking 3 hours to prep and bundle up 2 days mail
).

They do it at our office.
It kind of helps us out but really we should have a bigger budget and a part timer should be in early doing it instead.

Re: MANAGER PREPING WALKS
Same in our office but managers end up doing the prep because..
1 - not enough staff, DOM scared of going over budget. fear factor.
2 - not enough volunteers for overtime these days due to the fed up at work factor.
3 - liners get their arses kicked if walks fail so they do it out of fear. Often they end up doing the deliveries as well.
That's the roaring success of :lfo 's "great place to work" initiative.

Re: MANAGER PREPING WALKS
If managers want to sort mail at a frame then they should have to be prep tested. If they fail then someone should offer them counselling and training. If they still fail to meet the required sorting level then they should be sacked and escorted off the premises forthwith with the encouraging words of F*CK OFF
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.
The time has come for union.

Re: MANAGER PREPING WALKS
4 of our "managers" have been trained on the walk sequencing machines.
Assume they anticipate some sort of industrial action in the future. :mfo

Re: MANAGER PREPING WALKS
I don't know whether this is relevan or not. But in my RDC, the managers do sometimes go in the Segs, and help sort the 1st Class, if it comes in late (vehicle breakdown, problems on the roads, etc..). But it's rare that it happens, and it's always greatly appreciated. As it stops our Drivers getting held up on the Bays.
But the idea of them doing so on a regular basis, is quite disturbing. As it takes away work that could justify more jobs.

Our Union rep told our gaffer to stop doing missorts and tipping trays, his answer was "Dont tell me what to do in my office".

Re: MANAGER PREPING WALKS
what they are actually doing is training themselves up for when "part" privatisation takes place they will be able to drop dpwn a level or two and still have a job when mass redundancy takes place. leave them alone, at least they can see whats going to happen .
