HELP for the over 50s

Can recall one possibly two of the brothers and sisters asking a good while back, about help for the over 50s whilst on delivery. But nobody could find any reference to it. Happened to come across this from the CWU Conference 2005 (Motion 5.20).

Motion 5.20

Conference agrees that the introduction of SDD in particular lengthened delivery spans and increased weight on delivery, has in some circumstances created an environment were some employees are now struggling with the delivery element of their duty.


It is imperative that negotiations are commenced immediately on a process similar to rehabilitation, that covers postman/woman aged over 50 years who are regularly observed having difficulty in completing their duty. This process will not be limited to any preconceived timescales.


The Postal Executive is instructed accordingly.

Tooday yet another guy has hurt his back in our office,Its not just the over 50's its about most people .See the new guys coming into our office,on short term contracts,big fit guys,
taking out big overwight bags and running around walk,as to wether walk is done correctly or not is another matter.

I personally can't complete a days work without a handful of painkillers It used to be a couple of ibuprofen but now it's Kapake (which makes me a bit dopey how would that work for driving a van for RM?).

What about the over 60's. Just gone onto 4.5hr deliveries and they are an absolute killer, mind you maybe that is RM's intentions. Still the manager thinks we should be able to complete the duty in the same time as the twenty year olds, but then he's a TUBE

I personally can't complete a days work without a handful of painkillers It used to be a couple of ibuprofen but now it's Kapake (which makes me a bit dopey how would that work for driving a van for RM?).

I thought Kapake were only supposed to be taken for pain relief after an operation ....better be careful there boyo

Also another post said they'd just gone onto 4.5 hour deliveries,why? It's supposed to be 3.5 hours Maximum,so your walk should be timed around 3 hours 15 mins which allows for some leeway on busier days.I know about the reality on the ground,but if we keep letting them push it,it becomes the norm and you're doing 4.5 hours without agreement.

I voted against 4.5 hrs but CWU were advising us to vote YES as it meant more full timers so most of the numpties voted it through. As i've posted elsewhere it's a DISASTER but then so is this job now

Christ no way could i do 4.45 deliverys.
My back feet and calfs ache as it is and i feel stiff as a board most of the time :)
Its not reasonable,its got to be bad for you.Your body would be constantly tired and you'd start to get niggling injuries and maybe permanent problems.
Plus RM 4.45 always means over 5 hours.

Why are you guys doing 4.5 hour deliverys
How do you have the hourage within your duty time to do these walks i can only guess your work load is very light.

Because when mail *supposedly* comes up sorted in walk order and large also comes up pre sorted,there wont be as much indoor work as there is now.
