Walk Logs

Post by Oh no its raining »

Oh my god, I was put on a walk i'd ot done today, so being a good sport I took it on without argument and followed the walk log for packing my pouch order, and telling my driver where to drop pouches off. When I got out on the walk, first pouch delivered without a problem, but I had to then keep backtracking my walks for delivery in the order the walk log suggested, I had a good old moan when I got back with undelivered regi's and booked an hour OT as I finished an hour late, but they wouldnt give me my hour meal relief because I was out working through it trying to keep on time.
Basically, is it my fault for working through my break and loosing the time or should I have been given 2 hours OT and as to the walk log, whats the point in having them if they just ball's the job up time wise?
Today was the first day I felt I could have walked away from the job, but glad I didnt as i'm ready and rearing for tomorrow  still love the job, just made my blood boil at the managements tightness today, I wont do no more favours from now on though!

Since when did we get a 1 hour break :hmmmm for FTs it's only 40 minutes

Attendance length total breaks probable pattern

Less than 2 hours 30 minutes none (a 10 min grace break should be provided if work permits)
2 hours 30 to 3 hours 10 mins 10
3 hours 1 to 3 hours 30 15 mins 15
3 hours 31 to 4 hours 59 20 mins 20
5 hours to 7 hours 30 mins 30
7 hours 1 to 8 hours 59 40 mins 40 or 20 + 20
9 hours to 10 hours 59 50 mins 30 + 20
11 hours to 12 hours 59 60 mins 40 + 20 or 30 + 30
13 hours or longer 70 mins 40 + 30

At our depot, we are given unpaid breaks between 9am and 10am because of past 'trouble' with union stuff (before my time there) but 99% of the guys work through it and finish an hour early with dom approval, if they are late including working through their lunch hour they get both. Today I worked all through it (unpaid) and got back to the depot 1 hour late. I was told by my dom at interview that we all get 1 hour unpaid breaks, which we HAVE to take, although there is nothing that i've read stating this.
Seem's like RM's problems are in the roots, why dont they just lay down 1 single working time regulation for everyone, no matter where we are, we all do the same old stuff. I was due to start working in Greenford MC originally, and there they get 1 hour 15 break, but are not alloud to go out delivering until 10:15 am so they are forced to have there breaks, we arnt and regularly leave the DO at about 8:30 - 9am.
RM =

Sorry, I dont mean to rant or rave, I was just asking if im entitled to get paid if I work through my break and finish on time (i.e the break worked plus full other working time) regardless of break length or should I drop sticks next time and let the mail centre sort it out :Very Happy I felt the :evil/mad in me coming out again, it really wound me up today :Boo hoo!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Royal Mail mismanagement :confused

We don't get paid any OT for our breaks so if it's a heavy day just take your break (best to take it before you go out) and then tell them what you are going to get delivered within your duty time and let them sort it out.

Dont we get a paid Meal Break within your duty, and if you was to work your duty throughout without taking a Meal Break, then would you not be able to claim a 40 min bit of docket to compensate for it?

My DOM has repeatedly stated that you cannot claim for your meal break because you should take your break before you go out.

As I understand things in our MC, because the whole mail centre 'worked by rule' last year over something petty for 4 days, causing a 2 week back log, RM gave in but took away the use of private cars, suspended paid meal breaks - replacing it with an unpaid hour (presumably to make people take it and work their full hours) and overtime payments have to be PROVEN before the claim is signed.
I honestly think, that if you are working to help RM through your meal break, paid or unpaid, they should cough up and pay, I can think of a million other things I could have used that hour for other than sweating my nuts off delivering to ungrateful disgruntled customers, then basically getting a b*llocking because I ask to be paid for helping.
The job I did before, and union I was with, would have lynched the management over this kind of treatment. Its absolutly pathetic, but now I know, and as grateful as I am to be working, and I am, I know times are hard for everyone, but they dont have a hope in hell of me helping or bailing RM out next time, 1st class can become 2nd class unless they open their wallet and play fair.

Thats fair enough and very difficult to argue with and could also protect any canteen duty within your office :Very Happy
