Lord Mandelson held secret talks with the firm looking to buy a stake in the Royal Mail BEFORE any sell-off had been announced, it was revealed yesterday.
The Business Secretary's meeting with Dutch company TNT was seven days ahead of the Government's release of its part-privatisation plans.
Campaigners claim the talks four months ago show he was already plotting the controversial sale.
Tory MP Edward Timpson blasted: "This raises serious questions about his conduct of the entire process." TNT has been named as the preferred bidder to buy the 30 per cent Royal Mail stake.
There have been no Government meetings with firms such as DHL or FedEx.
The Department for Business admitted that Lord Mandelson talked with TNT.
It added: "Ministers are willing to meet with any party interested in forming a partnership with Royal Mail." The Business select committee last week blasted the sell-off as a dodgy deal..

Why is it that "the union" 
are not making every effort to make this more publicly known? It is about time Dave Ward and co got off their backsides and actually did what are being paid for. Ages ago we were told they were about to defend the final salary pension but they just rolled over as usual.

We all knew :mfo was close to Europe and TNT is the preferred bidder of :mfo the thing is this we are lead too believe that it in the interest of the public but it seams to me it in his :mfo interests and that of TNT!. :mfo :mfo :mfo

Of course Mandelson had talks with TNT. There is no way he would have embarked on this sell-off if he wasn't convinced that there was, at least, one company eager to buy.
It was presumably a natural progression from the talks a few years ago when TNT and the others were invited to take a chunk of our business and given assurances that Royal Mail would be prevented from competing against them.
