We had an accident in our office the other month, someone had an elastic band snap in their face when they were bundling up and it caught them in the eye causing them to be taken to hospital for treatment. Thankfully they made a full recovery and are now back at work.

Just last week we had a safety audit, the managers as usual were flapping about telling us to tidy our frames etc etc. That is normally all we hear about it until the next audit, but this time was different. In WTL the following day we were told that from now on we would have to wear plastic safety glasses when banding up our bundles in case there was a repeat of anymore eye injuries. It was also said that anybody not wearing them could be put on a “conduct code” if seen banding up without them, the unions having agreed to this.
I was just wondering has any other office had to start wearing these safety glasses
or is it just my office.

Bring on the Kevlar vests and onsite safety helmets - a better idea would have been to spend a little more on better bands than the crap they have accepted the tender for. You don't see the f***ing idiots that flick them at each other using Royal Mail bands - they are afraid of a backfire taking their eye out.

similar thing happened in our office but one of the staff got hit on the forehead, so now we all have to wear safety glasses and hard hats. the area h&s rep has given it his full support.

About a week ago one of the guys fired a band at another guy and missed but hit a lady postwoman in the nipple . She took a reaction to it and had to goto hospital

On returning she was told that she and every woman was now to wear what i can only describe is like the police stab vest . Then on Saturday we got a batch of 50 delivered and was told that every employee was now to wear one .... even the dom . Surely theres better ways to use the little money we have ??

Havent heard of the glasses or helmets but only a matter of time .

The vests do feel quite good so gettin used to it already .

You wouldnt happen to know if they do the vest in a lightweight version would ya? only the nipple thing is an issue for us but we've all been issued full body armour an its a bit restrictive whilst cycling.
