booking holidays?

as a new starter im yet to book my holidays(april 2009-march 2010).

xmas is the busiest period so very unlikely i can book any during that time but is there a cut-off point if i wanted to book some holidays for the begining of december?

The Xmas pressure period begins from the first week in December and
lasts until the first week in January.
A limited number of staff, I think it's 5% in each work area, can take
leave during the Xmas pressure period.
You should ask if there is any vacant period available, as a lot of people
want to do the Xmas SA/OT so don't book leave during Xmas pressure.

I was told that NO leave is granted during the Christmas pressure period.
Is it really 5% for each work area and if so is that a national agtreement ?

I remember reading the Agreement in the Union Room about four years ago.
I can't remember what it was called, but it was when we went to signing for
Annual Leave up to 18 months in advance. The quid pro quo that the CWU got
was that a limited number of staff would be able to take leave during the Xmas
Pressure period. I can't remember the exact figure, but I think it was 5% from
each work area/group.
I applied for leave during the Xmas period for the following Xmas, and was given
it. Two out of about 35 staff in my work group wew allowed to take leave during
the Xmas pressure period, so that would be about 5%.

I went to Union Room today to try to find out what the Agreement about AL during
Xmas period was called. Spoke to a Senior Rep who said that it was actually a Local
Agreement, and that the final Agreement made the Xmas pressure period an open AL
period to be signed for in the same way as AL during the rest of the year.
So I apologise for having misled you on this. It would seem that the availability of
AL over the Xmas pressure period will depend on the Local Agreement or custom and
practice in individual offices.

You are very unlikely to have time off in December apart from floating week off or day off. But ask the DOM if this is possible.

Same as FT - Four and a half weeks on entry, and until you've worked 5 years.
But you're only going to get paid for the number of contractual hours you do.

It would depend when you started.
But whatever you get, unfortunately you would only get 20 hours pay
for the weeks you are on Annual Leave (or sick).

so what do I get if I work for more than 5 years ? asI nearly done 4 years and only got 3 weeks and 3 days off plus bank holidays which is crap.

I've got a 1 in 6 and a week's holiday booked after it coming up... 6 more get ups!!!

as p/t how many days can i have off according to the law? i wrk 20hrs 4 day week

ive been told by my line manager i can book 18 days in total but since checking direct gov website it should be 22.4days.
i talked to my dom and he goes nothing have been filtered down to him about the recent increase in entitlement.
