i know it's a sore subject, out of curiosity, which areas of royal mail are another company proposal buying into.. 30% share.. what other options have been given to purchase further shares? what seat on royal mail board will be given to this competitor?

how much is it going to cost royal mail in further revenue? logo changes..vehicle painting.. uniforms..etc..if any

I would think that tnt would only be intrested in the processing and distribution of mail. If you think about it that,s the only places that decent profits can be made.They already have a large fleet of artics, 17 and 7.5 tonne vehicles and could carry both our and there stuff on the same vehicles which would cut the number of vehicles required by both companies. I cant see them wanting anything to do with the delivery side of letters as this is to labour and resource intensive. I think the idea of this privatisation is to turn Rooyal Mail into the nations paperboy which all post carriers will have access too( like now). The only difference will be the profitible part of the buisness will be in private hands with the money made going into private hands. Just my oppinion. Hope i,m wrong.

What a ridiculous post - there will be no rebranding, no logo chnages. *If* a private partner is brought in and lets hope they dont get the chance, they will be buying 30% of Royal Mail letters. That is it.

what's ridiculous about asking a reasonable question? i did say if any .. i doubt if there be any major or minor changes regarding logos.. somewhere along the lines there will to a minimum. probably in literature and royalmail website

hi shadow, yeh they got their fleet already.. so have royal mail.. parcelforce.. if they were interested in letter delivery, they would have done it already. at the moment, they are for example distributing barclays bank statements. they collect and sort the mail, then pass it onto rm so they can send it on and tnt pay rm 13 pence..(final mile).. lorries and fuel aren't exactly cheap so in tnt bulk mail, the only way they can do it is by paying their drivers lower wage. by paying a lower wage helps them claw back the costs of fleet purchase etc..

if a statement costs 42 pence to send, it should average out at 14 pence per stage, 14p for collection, 14p for sorting and 14p for delivery.

In that case, they are making a penny per letter by using royal mail. a million pennies equates to £10,000 a month, and that is just on personal bank accounts and there are more than a million barclay personal account holders who have monthly statements. i think tnt pay royal mail 13.75 pence per business letter.

tnt pay sorters a lower wage than a deliverer.

if tnt are not interested in delivery of letters as such, then only the bulk collection and conveying of letters is in their interests. royal mail already do this, so i can't see where tnt can be squeezed in by granting them access, unless royal mail was taken out. it's not a case of extra business is created to allow tnt to operate without interfering with royal mail.

if it's tnt....we are only talking tnt because they are the only name that's been mentioned. deutschepost have been mentioned in the past, they are pulling out of some their american interests. probably germany will have to sell off their european interests if they are buying into royal mail..

nobody seems to know how much it's going to cost.. 250million was banded about last month, and some mp was banging on about selling royal mail for peanuts. which gives the impression mps are interested only in the money.

how was the figure of 30% brought up in the first place? at least we know that now, as it was said that 49% was to be sold in the beginning, and 49% would have been far far worse to deal with..

It was always 30% in fact I have been saying since year dot that if the plans get through it'll be 33% thats how Govt's do these things. Nic Brown (Broons chief wip or something) has said he is open to other ideas about funding....so why the neccessity on getting a private company in??? doesn't make sense. What is it with Lord f****n Mandelson?!?!

30% is a lot mind. it would have been safer to introduce 10% or even with further options. 30% is too risky and if it goes t1ts up, it be even a bigger mess to sort and bail out.

whoever goes in, it would be the same situation.. shareholder will want returns on money invested to start.. but that is only on the 30% of their side.

how on earth is the debt on the public side is expected to reduce with a 30% gap beats me. the only thing i could think of is somewhere in the contract, tnt agreeing to pay a percentage of their profits towards royal mail debt , and get to keep more of their profits as time goes by. or lose vat exempt status and have the vat rerouted back into royal mail.

as for tnt already having their own fleet, to transfer over to royal mail will mean leaving a shortfall with themselves in their own operations. i cant see tnt buying a new fleet just to pick up at mail centres.. by the time 2011 comes, their older fleet would be outdated....if only we could have a peak at what deal the soilicitors are drawing up...
