Starting in Eastleigh Del. Office

Hi guys,

Im due to start in Eastleigh Delivery office next week on a walk. Just wondering if any of you's know of the rounds there, any decent walks or hard ones they give new starters??

You'd be lucky to get 3 days on a duty before moved in my DO but it does help if you're to dumb to move (or a pretty woman).

Also, what am I to expect? Do they (DO's in general) give the hard shifts to newbies to 'bed in' first or more easier routes? Also is there anyone from Eastleigh DO here that can give me some pointers....Do's and Dont's I'm a transfer from a MC previous 2 years so I know the basics

Now you will see where the real work is done!!!!!! It dont whizz through the hands as quick as on the machines!!!! Oh the stress is a bit higher as well

It just depends on what duties are empty in the DO but it's usually the more difficult PT ones that the newbies are put on, I suppose it depends on your contract and how many hours you're working.
20 hours is delivery only
28 hours is prep and deliver
40 hours is either prep/prep and delivery or IPS then prep then delivery.

Guys, quick question....Im just starting the role at the DO, BUT also I am looking to join the TA, as my rota is for Saturdays and due to the basic training I need to do for the TA is over the weekends. Whats the normal stance on this, will they allow me the time off (if I make the time up during the week). Its just because I'm a new starter at the DO will they be pis*ed at all or will they accommodate it?

Wouldn't try it saturdays are always the worst for coverage..... There used to be the thing where they let you have 2 weeks off for basic but don't know if that applys. Best not to try it on with your DOM, have a word with the line manager but it will probably be a point blank no chance!

In our office the new starters are generally put on the horrible rounds because the cushy rounds are all taken by the long serving full timers. Apart from one who's mates with the DOM and has been on a rather cushy round since he started....

I've served in the T.A. while with royal mail. You're line manager will give you two weeks off to do your basic training, and give you two weeks per year for "camp". For these you also get ten days pay, and do not have to make up the time. Saturday exercises are slightly different. When i was serving i was allowed eight Saturdays per year, but this is unpaid. You get your pay from the T.A. unit you serve, but this is normally monthly. Again, there is no time to make up. You will have to provide paperwork from the T.A. unit to show you have attended, and this is then handed in to ensure you get paid. It is also in your interests to give your line manager as much notice as possible for time off.
However, all this falls down if there are too many serving in the office.
It used to be royal mails policy that only 3% of the office could participate. Anything over this and they could refuse your time off, but even if it was granted, they wouldn't be paying you. I'd suggest you take a look at royal mail web pages and find the latest gen.
