Peter Mandelson's postman says save Royal Mail by sacking bosses

Peter Mandelson's postman yesterday revealed he knows how to rescue Royal Mail and save millions of pounds - by sacking the bosses.
Christian Smith, 60, said getting rid of "pointless managers" would be a much better idea than Mandy's plan to part-nationalise Royal Mail.
Christian, speaking as he delivered to the Business Secretary's North London home, said there were five managers overseeing 56 staff at the sorting office where he works.
He added: "We used to cope with just one manager.
"Everyone who works there knows what they are doing and where they need to be. They don't need five people telling them.
"These managers are on £40,000 to £50,000 a year and all they do is turn up and go straight into their offices to watch TV and play on Facebook.
"Meanwhile the guys who deliver to your front door every day and actually do the work are being told the pension pot is empty.
"There's a very simple way to save us money - get rid of all the pointless managers."
Christian, a grandfather who has worked for Royal Mail for 20 years, added: "Once it's part privatised there'll be cuts and sadly it will be the managers who get to decide where those cuts are made. And it won't be themselves. Once the sale goes ahead I'm going to put in for early retirement. I think everyone who can will go - there'll be an exodus."

Sadly, Christian has not been able to advise Lord Mandelson personally.
He said: "I've never actually met Mandy. By the time I get to his house he's left for work.
"But I often wish I did meet him so I could tell him exactly what I think. I'm sure he doesn't think too much about frontline workers like us."
Mandy wants to sell off at least 30 per cent of the Royal Mail - in return the Government would take on liability for its pension fund - estimated to be £8billion in debt.
But Christian believes the Royal Mail is far from secure in Labour's hands.
He added: "It's like the Tories and BT all over again, perhaps even worse.
"What makes it so stupid is we don't need to do this."

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I wonder if he will be prep, walk and sort tested fairly soon.
If he does it will be wrong, plain wrong.

Re: Peter Mandelson's postman says save R M by sacking bosses
He hasn't told any lies, all he has said is what most of us have already said on this board that as postie numbers decrease, the manager numbers increase
I've said it before, whenever I started there was 1 manager for 50 odd staff but now we have 3 for 40 odd staff (not to mention the DSM who seems to be down in the office every week trying to sort out problems).
It just seems to be a system run by managers for the sole benefit of managers.

He's right though. We used to have two managers for 120 staff, we now have three for 89 staff.

Re: Peter Mandelson's postman says save R M by sacking bosses
What this postman has said is the truth and I don't think, he will be called into the office, because a few weeks ago on the news, I heard a few MPs commenting about the managers lack of corporate experience and I think this is also mentioned in the Hooper Report. This postman is only repeating what everyone else has said or is saying. RM and the CWU really need to start working together and start listening to each others ideas and taking on board good ideas whether it is from RM or the CWU.

The big difference with Managers now though Gents is when I started they were all ex telegram boys who had come up through the ranks and knew what they were doing, nothing like what we have now with only a few years experience between em.
I'd rather have Lockheed deliver the mail than ride around in a plane built by the post office
