self certificate.
Do you have to put a specific reason down or can you be a little vague. For example can you put personal in the box.its just that I think my medical history should be confidential and not left lying around on a table in an office.

Re: self certificate.
good question. well it is normally the doctor who puts the reason, so mayb if you said to him, and just tell him that RM tend to leave things lying around, i have seen peoples sick lines lying about before. Hopefully the doctor would put on it then personal for you.

Re: self certificate.
If it's just a self-cert line then just put down the usual generic terms (flu, bad knee, depression etc.) and let the doctor fill in his form with more details and at the end of the day (if my office is anything to go by) everyone will know the complete ins and outs of all your problems

:cfo just a reminder here, that any details regarding you medical condition come under the Data Protection act,and if Employers tell anyone, without your express permission, they are breaking the Law.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:If it's just a self-cert line then just put down the usual generic terms (flu, bad knee, depression etc.) and let the doctor fill in his form with more details and at the end of the day (if my office is anything to go by) everyone will know the complete ins and outs of all your problems

The Attendance Procedure is your friend in this matter - available in Downloads http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 36&t=11808" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;antcpfc wrote:Do you have to put a specific reason down or can you be a little vague. For example can you put personal in the box.its just that I think my medical history should be confidential and not left lying around on a table in an office.
3. RETURN TO WORK DISCUSSIONS
When someone returns to work from absence the line manager must aim as soon as possible to speak privately and out of earshot of others with the person in a non-threatening and supportive way outside formal procedures with the following objectives:
· to acknowledge the employee's return and show it is valued
· for the employee to air any concerns
· to see if any help is needed and provide direction to encourage regular attendance
· to ensure absence is appropriately certified
Absences due to sickness are assumed to be genuine.
A return to work discussion will take place but employees will not be required to disclose information of a personal or sensitive nature if they choose not to do so.
