Rats I am losing cut through's

Just a little rant.

Firstly to start off I would like to say that unlike some tear ar**s I do not tramp across people’s lawns or push through flowerbeds to take short cuts. However my delivery is quite long and does contain a large number of long driveways and there are just a few really useful cut through’s which save on the legs.

One of these was between two properties which have 70 feet open gravel drives. The short cut was where a large conifer hedge ended and a garage began, no more than about 3 feet but enough to walk through without touching anything. I ve been using this shortcut for the past 5 years and the postie before me used it for longer than that without any problems.
On sat morning I cut through and came out upon the owner of the house and the valet who was cleaning his Jaguar. Obviously my sudden arrival took them a little by surprise so I broke into my cheery postie talk and greeted them with “morning gents and a nice one for a change” routine etc. The bloke washing the car seemed pleasant enough and we had a little joke about how it would now rain because he had just washed the car.
The house owner was smiling (sort of) but I could tell he was not happy with the use of the short cut, however he said nothing. I asked if he wanted to take the mail or would prefer me to deliver it through the box, he took it so I wished them farewell.

Today (Mon) whilst loaded with up sky mags I try to use the cut through only to find 4 thick strands of green plastic coated wire blocking the way. Upon inspection I saw that eyelets had been drilled into the garage wall and the wires secured deep into the hedge, ie: a proper job in which i imagine he had run for the drill the moment i was out of sight.

Now I understand that people want to make their property secure and feel safe and I understand that if someone wishes to enforce a boundary then they should and why should we expect any different. But it just seems so petty when both driveways are open anyway. So now I have to walk all the way around (yes I know I should anyway) but it really p****ed me off.

I just feel that some type of people have no concept of how difficult our job can be and its stupid little things like the odd cut through can sometimes help make the day more manageable. Rant over, never mind.

Most days i am up to my time and on sats i am over by 30 mins anyway so to be honest its not really changing anything. Esp when you get back to the office and find the managers went home an hour before you so have no idea what time you got back

No problem with Long driveways ,low letterboxes,come the revoulotion Mail boxes at start of driveway WILL BE COMPULSORY OR NO MAIL SIMPLE.

the next door neighbour played hell with her "your making the poor postie walk all that way around" didn't seem to register with her
i used to leave her packets in her garden shed for her [all above board] well no more, have no probs walking all the way around as it is part of my job
but she has when she has to travel the 5 miles to the office and it is shut to the public when i get back so there is no way she will get her packets the same day and it will cost her to come into town

oh well thems the breaks eh

Yeah why are you trying to save your legs when you should be walking miles to deliver a mailsort.
Afterall it`s not like your busy is it with the drop off of mail.

Aye theres ways and means of getting back at them, I do the same, I am nice if they are nice, I would even go out of my way for disabled customers, if they ar enasty or petty, I just hate the pettiness and retailiate accordingly by being awkward and doing everything the offical way.

Some people just don't think things through

I have one mangy customer the benefit sponging type, greasy hair, face like a pizza, she regularly has a booklet which states do not push through box as she has a Dog behind door, she couldn't be arsed putting a cage at the back of it, when I gave it to her for the first time, she seemed to delight in telling me to shut the gate, which is falling to bits, she has a power trip on it, it makes me fume but one day she will regret her arrogance.

I had a few cut throughs on my old round but because I'm so short I couldn't get over them... The lad that does it now is a lot taller than me and can step over the fences I had to walk round and I've only got lil legs No wonder I was always pooped.

Less legs = shorter step you prob walk further and work harder than most of us

My calf muscles doubled in size though so I can't get my knee high boots on anymore <sobs>

EDIT: Just wanted to point out that I never wore those boots on delivery...

LOL why not save your legs by using a cut through, what a fool the person is who wrote you should do the job properly by walking all the way round, like a min will make a difference!! i just sit on a park bench and wait if im gonna be early back nice and relaxing! nop way im going back to do sorting for free!!

Its true i thought he was a bit unrealistic to be honest. Even if i stopped using every cut through (less than 10 now) and walk all the way around my delivery would take only about 5-7 mins longer. Which pales into nothing when i get back to the office and find some guys have completed their rounds and a third on overtime and are sitting around drinking coffee.
