2009 Pay talks
I heard rumours of
doing 5 doors to doors nonsense for price of 3
2 thousand pounds lumpsum in return of doing doors to doors for free.
changing weekly to monthly pay
What can we expect from next pay deal ? and when we will get an answer from CWU and Royal Mail ?

Re: 2009 Pay talks
You are quite right - but how many officers do you see coming in early or taking them home to prepare them? I would have thought that by getting them, however many lots, prepacked in a single packet would make it far easier to prepare and deliver and would save time. As for the pay deal for 2009 - well if we can't get them to the table to discuss the modernisation plans what chance is there of getting them to commit to a pay deal - the last time we didn't get the full back pay and so the longer they hang on the less it will cost them.shelanda wrote:We are now 20% a daybanner18 wrote:Carew wrote:I heard rumours of

I don't think it will be 5 per week, I think it will be one per day excluding Saturdays (or perhaps, 1 per day if you are going there otherwise leave it until tomorrow)
So much for an 85% call rate.
So much for an 85% call rate.

I think that that would make sense, set all duties to 100% and no prep. of D2Ds.Spedley wrote:I don't think it will be 5 per week, I think it will be one per day excluding Saturdays (or perhaps, 1 per day if you are going there otherwise leave it until tomorrow)

The 2 grand lump sum was ruled out by conference last year.
Monthly pay is already policy subject to a good enough deal that is worthy of being put to the mermbership.
Doing more door to doors has been about for ages but CWU wont accept it without the weight on delivery and renumeration issues being resolved.

Isnt 1 lot per day the same as 5 lots per week?Spedley wrote:I don't think it will be 5 per week, I think it will be one per day excluding Saturdays (or perhaps, 1 per day if you are going there otherwise leave it until tomorrow)

1 lot per day is different to 5 lots on a Tuesday or doing other peoples D2D instead of overtime.celerycelery wrote:Isnt 1 lot per day the same as 5 lots per week?Spedley wrote:I don't think it will be 5 per week, I think it will be one per day excluding Saturdays (or perhaps, 1 per day if you are going there otherwise leave it until tomorrow)

Re: 2009 Pay talks
I have no idea where these rummours come from as the CWU have not yet met with management over this years pay claim.
The facts are this is that with regards to monthly pay the cwu have previously had conference policies oppoising monthly pay. Under the pay and mod deal monthly pay was put into the pay and benifits joint working party which along with the other joint working parties didt meet often and didt go anywhere. But lets remember that Royal Mail have wanted monthly pay ever since cashless pay came in the late 80s and have still not achieved its aim.
With regards to Door 2 Door well the union wants a deal with Royal Mail to increase the number of Door to Door before we see this growth in the mail bussiness disappear to other compeitiors. It really is time to bite the bullet on Door to Door if we increase the number not only will we be able to protect full time jobs going forward we will be able to achieve a supplement 52 weeks per year for delivery staff.
Whilst I understand Door to Door is unpopular to some members. The fact is that its is work which is increasing in a declining market. Look at todays announcement of the Cowley workers laying off 850 workers do you think they would turn away work. The fact is that in some areas there are over 50% part timers converting Door to Door into workload would assist some who would want to increase their hours as well as protect full time jobs else where.
The alternative is to keep fudging the issue and allow Royal Mail to keep reducing full time jobs as they exclude a chunk of workload (D2D ) from the offices traffic figures. By the way Royal Mail do not belive they can capture anymore then 5 items per week in the current unaddressed market in any case.
Sadly if Door to Door is converted into workload it won`t mean 100% call rate as Royal Mail want 20% delivery of all 5 items per day so only 20% of your delivery will have 100% call rate per day.

probably a 0% increase with the possibility of a one off lump sum payment should you hit the goalposts which our managers will be moving and you will have to elect someone with 1 leg who will be wearing a blindfold and facing the wrong way.Carew wrote:I heard rumours of

Re: 2009 Pay talks
And how close are you to the shop floor? It isn't you biting the bullet dingo and it is only a proportion of members who WILL be affected - delivery staff . It isn't supplemental pay that the work force want but pensionable increases in basic pay. How would an increase in D2D protect full time jobs - the fact is there are areas with 50% part timers and that has gone on with the union blessing - was that not the basis for the savings bonuses which I might add hardly anyone has seen - now lets look at how many full time jobs would be saved considering only delivery staff are going to be affected, the truth of the matter is that Royal Mail would want the extra D2D carried out without any guarantees whatsoever and as for a maximum of 5 per week - that would last as long as it took them to get 6,7 or 8 per week. Royal Mail are no more concerned about traffic figures than the man in the moon, who believes the current traffic figures?dingo wrote:I have no idea where these rummours come from as the CWU have not yet met with management over this years pay claim.

As for not being a 100% call rate - how would it be if there are 5 lots and you do 20% of each one across the whole delivery, that is 5 portions of 20% - which fulfils the 20% criteria and evens the weight across the whole delivery - I hope most sincerely that you are not a negotiator.
The rumours over the current pay negotiations are obviously that - it is far too early - the rise is due 1 April and paid in October so there is plenty of time to be thinking about how much we aren't going to get.

Re: 2009 Pay talks
I have always argued in favour of D2D's because they could be to our advantage. Tell the customer he can choose which day he wants his D2D to be delivered on and all of a sudden we're offering a really good service. A mailshot the day before a big sale, that sort of thing! I would encourage as many as we can handle. But the important aspect from our point of view is the call rate. Then the money! 100% and your outdoor work is secured for eternity even extended producing new outdoor work duties. Remember pegasus calculates a low call rate that affects the lenght of your delivery. If it was 100% the delivery would become longer! Its that simple. Now get the CWU to push for the daily service, customers will love it and Royal Mail will have no option but to accept 100% call rates. By the way I am a delivery postman using a HCT. One maybe even two a day doesn't impact too much with weight issues. I realise everybody hates doing them. Myself included but if it can be used to our advantage then it must be encouraged.

Re: 2009 Pay talks
Dvbunk you are so negaitive. I might not be doing a delivery now but when I was we campaigned to have Door to Door into workload. The simple reason we must be one of the few industries to turn away work . Why ? because its unpopular. The reason being it means our members have to work harder and finish later.
Giving the fact that Royal Mail have announced that in deliveries that they think we are inefficent and want to introduce more part timers and cut full timers then I thought it may be obviously to you that if you move D2D into workload whilst protcting the money we might be able to protect full time jobs.
Now with regards to increasing it above 5 per week it is believed that it is not feasable as the market is quite tight. But would that be a massive issue if they could if he secured full time jobs.
Now with regards to me being out of sync with the members. Well maybe in your office but I speak to members at numerous meetings around a large part of country and once you explained the issue and the direction the union wants to take in order to protect jobs in deliveiries. Also would the dockyards or the car plants refuse to do additional work as work is power.
In terms of being a negotiator thats a cheap shot considering you dont me.
In my opinion your what i always have called a canteen cowboy talk a good fight and moan a lot but have never led any attempt to improve things in the workplace.
The policy of Door to Door has been carried at Annual Conference since 1992 with the latest being an emergency motion in 2006 which had the following line " it therefore instructs the postal executive to make the inclusion of Door to Door into workload , both indoor and outdoor, the primary objective in concluding a new agreement concerning Door 2 Door. In doing so they are additionally instructed to capture and if possible enhance the value of payments. "
So it is you who is out of sync with the majority of the cwu as this was overwheimily carried by Branch`s at this conference.
Cheap shots are childish and offer nothing . I am happy to have a debate but I am far to old in the tooth to get into an arguement over what I know to be true.
