can manager force you off your duty..?

I have recently moved office to driving duty, Both Mail centre and D O knew i would require driver assesment to carry out my new duty to date this has not happened.I have received some training for delivery and getting to grips with my frame, doing my walk but cant drive or take over my duty in full because i can drive the van.........till they get me assessed. This is not my fault, it's ROYAL MAIL and it's lack off basic admin skills.IToday i was forced to do a walk in an area that i dont know in very bad weather conditions, and with no royal mail uniform. i refused but manager threatened me with stage warning...!I thought if you held a duty that was your job.....?

Unless you have signed for a duty then the manager can put you on any duty they want, although I don't understand why you can't drive (as long as you have a driving license you should be able to drive).

this is really funny i had a member of staff come to me with the same problem but i coulnd not help as they where not a member of the CWU but if they join i will be more than happy to.

I am the duty holder, due to there inability to arrange appropriate training for staff to take on new duty on changeover date, i am not legally allowed to drive there the vehichle. Had it been my responsibility i would have had my driver assessment arranged for last week in previous office so on 1st day on new duty i would be able to carry out that duty in full . This would be most cost effective for the company,

Why do you need "driver assessment" we don't have them in my office? what sort of van is it?

What driver assesment? Unless you're to drive over 7.5tonne lorries then your normal driving license will suffice and I don't see how you have your own duty (if you've only transfered for another office because you've signed for a duty then that would be OK).

Usually. you wouldbe assessed in one of the bigger vans-then you can drive any size from that one down.
Even if just driving the smaller vans, you would be assessed. (In our office,at least, by the R.A.C.)

Hasn't been a driver assesment in 5/6 years in my office and I don't expect one in the future because of budget constraints.

I recently had to have a driver assessment before i could drive RM vans at our office, so did a couple of other lads.
I had to go out in a High Top with RAC advanced driving instructor to assess my driving skills, He takes you out
for about half hour feels a bit like your taking a driving test again.
