Handing out stuff at work

Hiya im a deputy union rep but new to it,just wondering is it ok to hand out bits of paper to all union members at work about our next local cwu meeting? Of course i know i would have to do this before my duty time starts but is it ok to do it?We have done a poster on the board but nobody ever really sees the board where it is.

You should also use Work Time Learning to brief your members on info from the CWU its a 2 way thing mate

Depending on managers and your place, you might get release time. As a local rep, mine was 'ad hoc' - as and when, so long as I informed my line manager (and don't take the p**s) . Depends on the working relationship you develope with any managers you deal with- I don't trust them, but if you can raise and discuss issues without being ignored/shouted at, you should be able to get time to do it.
Talk to your area rep or branch sec.Hardest part of being a rep is often telling your members what they don't want to hear, but if you're upfront and explain things you get credibility. If you don't have an answer to a question, say so and try to find out through other reps, here, or unionreps.org.uk - tuc reps discussion board. Bulls******g or not getting back to members will lose you cred.
