Got sent home this morning
I slipped on some ice on Saturday, not surprising considering it was -9c, so could'nt complete my duty, went back to office filled in accident report. Told then to go sort M3 flats. 4 lineos went out on part of my duty, whilst they were gone my leg started really hurting so at 11.30 i decided to get home and take some pain killers. This morning I go in and am told my pay will be stopped because I went early on Saturday. This morning they had me sorting packets until 7.00 when the DOM came in, I was then told I was to go home as I can't do a delivery and they did'nt want my leg getting injured by someone shoving into me with a york incase I sued them. I did protest as basically I've just got through my Stage 3 and did'nt want any absence to add to it, the LM said 'It'll go on your record and you will have deal with the stage when its triggered', are AOD included in stages?. Just come back from the docs who told me I am to rest my leg for a week due to pulling muscles in my thigh, bruising the whole side of my leg when I went over and I was very lucky I did'nt injure myself more. So will this AOD trigger another stage and can they stop my pay for going early on Saturday?

they certainly don't like you - get it registered as a Industrial Accident with the Social - get on to the union and put a claim in - call their bluffk66yla wrote:I slipped on some ice on Saturday, not surprising considering it was -9c, so could'nt complete my duty, went back to office filled in accident report. Yes. They are now classed as 'incidents', not accidents, and trigger a stage being issued. At least, that's been my experience. If they put you on a stage, submit a grievance immediately. It may not prevent them sacking you but it will be in your favour when it comes to the tribunal.are AOD included in stages?.
Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?

Accidents at work are not included for stage warnings at our office so I can't believe somthing so important can be different from office to office. Also were you wearing the crappy no grip magnum shoes if so I would say your accident was Royal Mail's fault. So you could get in touch with a solicitor and put a claim in against RM, just as a mate of mine is doing at the moment, for supplying us with inadequate footwear.

An AOD will trigger a Stage letter being issued, and your manager will have to call you
in for a Stage interview. But as it was an AOD and has been recorded as such, he should
not take any further action. Make sure you take a Rep in with you for the interview.

AOD's are issued stage warnings in my office (the manager argues that he has to give them and because there's no appeal there's nothing we can do about it).

managment are treating you in a 'detrimental' fashion---when i lost my original walk after the last bout of revisions, and was relegated to a temp. relief, they tried to take away my rotating days off, and therbye my Saturday off, when I claimed their behaviour was detrimental. and they had to restore my daysoff etc. worth a try.

The attandance proceedure is quite clear AOD's are normally discounted. If the manager hearing the case decides they are to be included you are entitled to the reason why and this reasoning must also appear in their written confirmation of their decision.
this is your managers reasoning for issuing, who told them he has to give them ? what happened to putting forward mitigating circumstances ? personnaly i would persue it via the B and H proceedure the Individual grievance proceedure.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:AOD's are issued stage warnings in my office (the manager argues that he has to give them and because there's no appeal there's nothing we can do about it).

Word of warning though, one manager issued a stage after one of my colleagues turned her ankle, saying it was an incident at work rather than an accident.

there was a post on here a while back - from somebody who had worked - or now works in the Insurance Accident claims business , saying he'd never heard so much rubbish in his life re RM regarding accidents as incidents .yogibear wrote:Word of warning though, one manager issued a stage after one of my colleagues turned her ankle, saying it was an incident at work rather than an accident.
Obviously nothing to do with RM being monitored by the HSE due it's poor record ? - good forbid that RM would cook the books and move the goalposts
I've seen the odd professional claimer - everybody knows who they are , but they are few and far between .

I had Aod recently got it logged with work & pensions as industrial injury which they wrote back saying it was & also spoke with Atos, you must get your ass covered in everyway you can, otherwise they will have you out.Did everything by the book, play them at there own game, but we do have strong union reps in our area.k66yla wrote:I slipped on some ice on Saturday, not surprising considering it was -9c, so could'nt complete my duty, went back to office filled in accident report. Re: Got sent home this morning
There was a thread on here in late 2007, which I can't find now, where I had some pointers from good people on here regarding an AOD that I had. I'm sure in the guidelines that RM give to managers, they can only use / count an AOD towards a Stage warning if they have reason to believe that you contributed in some way to your accident, e.g. by not wearing the correct PPE (Personal Protective Equipment, such as RM shoes), or being in an area you should not have been etc etc.
If they believe that you contributed in some way to your accident, however, they must write to you within (I think) 7 days to advise you of this. Should they fail to do so within that timescale, it is deemed by default a pukka AOD and cannot be used towards your dismissal. Get your rep to check this out.
I went in to my Stage interview armed to the teeth with arguments, but in the end the manager did not issue the Stage as 'one of the absences was as a result of an AOD, which is not disputed'

Just happened to be viewing a former Employment Appeals Tribunal case which involved Royal Mail Group PLC (Formerly Consignia) and noted in particular one extract from it:
Failure to exclude a work-related injury:
The Royal Mail procedure provides that accidents which happen in the course of work would normally be discounted and the Tribunal expressed concern that Mr ****** did not appear to have addressed his mind to this possibility of excluding that absence, although he did not have to.
