I hope you guys can help; one postie (age 54) in our DO has been threatened with performance testing since he occasionally dares to claim overtime (but then finds it crossed off) and is not always able to cover more work under stage 3 when they collapse walks - in other words he dares to say he is out of time. We all know he has quite a big round but he is not one of the favoured few and does the job properly : not coming in early, taking meal relief, not jumping/running round etc.
I know him well enough to know that he has done nothing wrong and in the course of time should have no problem but what can he expect in the meantime?
A bit of background we are a rural office with no CWU rep (but i guess about %75 CWU members) and during the strike about %80 were strike breakers; needless to say he along with me were one of only a few strikers. As far as i know he has had no past disciplinary problems, has only been sick once in 5 years (and that was due to an accident at work)
Are there accepted practices on what meetings take place, what warning is given, when is a CWU rep able to be present?
To top it all he doesnt even want to do overtime but feels forced to complete his round without being paid to try and keep the peace.
The percieved wisdom is that this comes from SOM level as we have quite a new DOM and it appears that he is being led by the nose from above.
My reward for striking was being sent to different offices over the christmas period and even being told on one day when i said i did not want to go to an office 30 miles away that they would force me to take it as annual leave.
Any help/advice gretly appreciated.

Re: Performance Testing
Don't know about the performance testing and I will leave that up to a rep. But I am certain of one thing, any meeting with management you are allowed representation and time to prepare. So in essence the rep is allowed in the very first meeting.

Re: Performance Testing
that needs flagging up to Branch - you could have that DUM on unfair detriment for legitimate trade union activity or even H&S - obviously the DUM is looking for brownie points and is trying to soften people up and knock the stuffing out of them . A tribunal would not be impressed .TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Don't know about the performance testing and I will leave that up to a rep. Being a bully he's looking for a soft touch - look what happened at Bristol & Burslem :lfo :cfo - call the DIM's bluff and push him , give him enough rope to hang himself
problem is if you go in without a rep , everything is purely to impress other managers and it's your word against his , bang grievances on him so RM can't wriggle out of it .
MURDERERS. Need to dispose of a body? Simply parcel it up and post it to yourself via DHL. You will never see it again.

Re: Performance Testing
Dont know a lot about this but i think procedures need to be followed. Ones in my place come in early and get ahead with buddy trays etc etc and those of us that come in at our correct start time are behind them before we have even started!!!! Why would anyone want to come in early and give up precious sleep time
This is what i say

Re: Performance Testing
Put grievances in like has been said, diaries everything & get the area rep involved.
Tell colleagues, & make them realize it will be them next.
I'm as fed up as anyone with the head in the sand brigade, they need to start standing up for themselves.

Only wish everyone was the same i do it like this and have done for years could see all the shi* coming so did mine properly have draged into the office on many occasions but always prevailed. They cannot force you to run arround and neither can they subject you to threats or intimidate you must diarise everything, rep every time your pulled into the office and keep slaping grieviences in against the managers involved and eventualy they will back off for fear of serious complaints against them that can't be kept inhouse............................. keep on doing what everyone should be doing

Re: Performance Testing
This guy is 54 years of age,at present he has not been charged with any offence all he has been doing is doing the job properly which in turn pisses them off,so to retaliate they said that they would do a performance test wonderfull let them go ahead. As we all get older your body is gradually slowing down yes you can still perform your duty ok but you will not be able to do it as quickly as the 25 year old that they put on it when your on leave, and this is what RM do not want to realise.
He will perform ok for for thier test and on delivery he has the right to finish at the end of his contracted hours, just follow correct procedure for bieng unable to complete your duty the rest then is your managers responsibilaty. Some offices have a 30 min flexability agreement for each day but it has to be convienient for you not at the drop of a hat,and that time has to be paid back to you that week NOT next week,so tell him you will be finishing early on sat.
RM is using heavy weight tactics to intimadate you into feeling that you have to do it,not so stay calm, follow procedure, and good luck.

Re: Performance Testing
A test on any duty must be performed by the duty holder not the office nark you cannot be compared to a younger delivery officer this is age discrimination and the age discrimination act must be brought into play (area/national) i'm assuming that this postie has been doing the job for a long period (age?) but even if not then has been doing the duty well enough for some time so it's only in the world of crazier and lateone that this desire for every delivery officer to run around at a zillion miles per hour in the name of 'modernisation' has occured............... :lfo :cfo take them all the way

Re: Performance Testing
Perhaps DUM is the right way to descibe a DOM as he has admitted that he set the process in motion because he was afraid that others might follow the example.
It seems the SOM is behind it as he is asking our DOM to try and force this through.
We wait and see the meeting is scheduled for next week with a CWU rep present.
As mentioned by an earlier poster i have been spreading the word about whats going on and although most of our lot are too scared to blow their nose unless they put their hands up first there is a growing realisation that this could be the tip of another iceberg.
Why the hell cant they try and work with us instead of treating us like Prince Edward treats a dog?
